I just finished installing the Flex-a-lite fan kit. For reference:
1) The instructions are ok, but a little generic. You are expected to find the ac clutch engagment lead. I used my Ford service manual CD to track down the wire in the PCM harness.
2) The brackets come in two pieces for each side of the fan for adjustment, but there is only one way they will go together...
3) The instructions say to mount the VSC to the top of the fan shroud, but that would be in the way. I mounted mine to the passenger side fan bracket. Down low and out of the way. Now that I'm done, I think I would mount it between the battery and firewall, but that might be a pain to adjust the temperature setpoint.
I'm installing the cobra water pump as soon as it gets here. If anyone wants pictures, just let me know.

Hard to say. It did seem to launch a little harder and rev a little more freely. Honestly, if I get the 1.5-2 MPG increase I will be ecstatic. I've read Mike's kit has very good instructions, but the flex-a-lite kit has the highest CFM rating (I think?) and the shroud looks a little more factory to me...
I've had my fans in for 3 tanks of gas, I've seen no increase in MPG. It would have been nice but it hasn't come. I do feel the power gain though, nothing scientific but the "Seat-O-the Pants" meter tells me its better. I think you can really hear and feel it at launch, its quieter and quicker.

I forgot to mention the fan clutch. If the shaft of the water pump that the fan is attached to is too small for vise grips (like mine was), you should not waste any time messing around with it - just rent the wrench from Autozone.
It usually takes me twice as long as it should to do something the first time. Over the course of 3 days, I think I had about 5-6 hours total in my project. If you have everything and know where everything is it probably will take three hours:
1)loosen radiator drain. (5 min - 3ft of 1/2" hose, 3 gallon bucket, 19mm wrench)
2)preassemble and wire fan to VSC, while radiator drains. (45min)
3)take off radiator plastic overlay. (10 min - flat blade and phillips screwdrivers)
4)Remove air cleaner assembly (5 min - flat blade screw driver, but I have K&N FIPK)
5)Unscrew fan clutch. (5 min - 'rented' wrenches)
6)unbolt fan shroud and remove fan and shroud together. (5 min - 7mm socket)
7)Loosen water pump pulley bolts. (5 min - 12 mm socket)
8)take belt loose - off alternator pulley. (5 min - long 1/2" drive rachet)
9)Remove water pump pulley. (5 min)
10)Remove water pump. (5min - 12mm, 6 in extension for bottom bolt)
11)Install new water pump and pulley (10 min)
12)Re-install belt (10 min)
13)Tighten drain and fill radiator. (5 min)
14)Install electric fan (10 min)
15)Wire fan to ground, battery, ignition and AC clutch (45 min)
16)Re-install air cleaner and radiator cover. (5 min)
