pep boys water pumps?

I am having a hell of a time with my Pep Boys water pumps.

I bought the first, and finally found out the shaft in it was bent:

Anyway, this morning I see coolant leaking from the truck again. Looks like the brand new pump is leaking the way my factory one did. Argh. It was about 5000 miles in about 3 months that this one lived.

Anyone else used a Pep Boys pump? Are they all like this? It isn't too hard to change, but it's still a pain in the butt. Three bad pumps already, that sucks.

Always go with Factory. It may cost you a little more but as you can see it is worth it

Why don't you try the cobra r water pump? Better flowing than the stock motorcraft pump and bit more, but well worth it. It works for the 4.6 and 5.4. not the v6

I went with getting one from autozone instead of pepboys..dunno the brand but it's got a life time warrantee, so when it goes bad I just exchange it for a new one...no charge.

Sprock,

I like the lifetime warranty but you have to take into account how much work the part will require to remove and replace. A lifetime warranty is great on say a rotor but a water pump will have you cursing about the 5th time you R&R it.
Just my 2 cents

Talking Factory all the way...

I must say that nobody makes a part like ford, they use top quality steel, brake pads (Grade 7), water pumps, seals...just about everything, and If you buy a part from the ford house most things come with a 12 month warranty, most of the water pumps in my friends 302's would last 140k or more, and I had one friend who would go to Gateway and Auto Zone every 4-6 months for parts...well he never learned, and I must agree with S'CrewLoose, I would rather do it once then 5 times..LOL
Thats my experience with crappermarket parts, and my 2 cents..

I may go with the Ford pump, it was very expensive, over $200, and no local dealer had it in stock at all.

For less than the price of the Ford pump alone, I bought:

Pump, all water hoses, coolant, all gaskets, thermostat, and even the tool to get the fan clutch off.

Do you have a part number for that Cobra pump? I've never heard of that being different before.

Don't buy a reman pump. The flange that holds the fan and clutch assembly on mine fell off and my fan was stoped from exiting the front of the vehicle by my brand new radiator. Result: ruined radiator, bent fan, and only 1/2 of a fan shroud, all over a $26 reman water pump THAT WAS 2 WEEKS OLD!!! Oh well, now I have an electric fan setup, and a second brand new $200 radiator. I purchased a brand new water pump from NAPA for $46.99. I don't know why I didnt check Ford. After talking to several mechanics, I have been told reman pumps are prone to do this.

Two months with no problems so far....

...hopefully many more to come.

I can't stand Pep Boys or their products. They seem to be priced to high and the quality of the parts the sell are middle of the road at best. I think I would follow the recommendation of getting a brand new water pump, whether it be Ford or and aftermarket. I am not sold on the remanufactured pieces, especially since they appear to be failing on an all too soon basis.

Go to oem-car-parts.com. They've got the waterpump for my 2000 F-150 at $87...Genuine Ford parts, come from a Ford dealership out in Texas....

$200 is highway robbery....
