First off, I don't think I'd take anything as gospel off a vendors website. You actually think they will tell you everything you need to know. They will tell you what it takes for you to buy their products!

This may make some interesting reading for some of you:

http://www.gadgetonline.com/airinduc...0air%20filter:

This is a start. Like I said, anyone can run what they want, just some infor so people can make an informed decision.

The first link claims to be the same test that K&N uses but there is no real data just a 1-5 rating. This is not how the test is run.

The next 3 links are all the same Conforti BMW opinions. No hard data.

The last link is Amsoils ad and as you said your self would you believe the vendor?

I believe the best data is the silica content from oil analysis. If you want to illustrate your point show that data again.

I did find the Accel website. They do say they have the dual stage filter for our vehicle. Their site is not the most up-to-date for years but they have a unit that crosses to the Fram 8039 which is the filter for our truck. Here is the site if you want more info:

http://www.mrgasket.com/acclcat.htm

I'll be going down to AutoZone tonight to check on price and availability.

Just another option instead of K&N and/or paper.

Question I wonder....???

Properly maintained, these filter are superior to any paper filter... just my opinion. Those links have already been discounted as bad testing data with bad results.

If they are so bad, I wonder why the U.S. Army used them in their Apaches helicopters during Desert Storm?

I think even the U.S. Border Patrol uses them in their vehicles... hmm...they must really suck (pun intended).

You mean those Apache helicopters that were grounded, yet again?

I use K&N myself, as a part of their FPIK. I like it for the performance boost (albeit fairly minor) it gives me, although I am somehwat concerned about the possible long term effects. But any number of things you do to your car may have an effect at 100,000 miles, just like the steak you had last night may have cut your lifespan by a quarter hour. I choose not to worry about it, just as I choose to eat steaks. I still plan on adhering to meticulous maintenance schedule. I find that easier to do than adhering to my meticulous exercise plan...

Hey, I got an idea * why don't you take a survey of F150online users on how dirty their intake is that are running the K&N??? Isn't that what this forum is for?? You can post links out the WazZu' but what about real life? Who better to tell you what works best than a few thousand F150 owners. Hmmm I wonder where that oil came from hmmmmmm..........................

OH NO!!!

I think I need to run three filters. One paper, one K&N, and one foam. Then I'll put a outer sock around each one.

I've had far too much experience with K&Ns in harsh conditions to have any concern with this hype.

Don't look now people, but the average fuel filter lets more dirt into your engine than most oil filters do. OH NO!!!!

Cool

I agree enough is enough already. This is just like the 5W-20 vs. 5W-30 debate. If you don't want to use a K&N, don't. If you do great! Like signmaster, my experience with K&N has been positive, and see no problem using them. Even your wonderful little paper filters let dirt in.

Good Luck,
Tony

BTW: My engine still has not exploded using 5W-30 instead of the recommended 5W-20.....amazing.

this is crazy

I have two vehicles now that have 150K +, that have had K&N filters since day 1. Both are in wonderful shape, and are very used and abused engines. I have 55K on my truck, same thing there.

If you are taking off the K&N, then just return your truck to stock, because every mod has comprimises. Lifting it? OOOhhh, that's dangerous. Bigger tires? Ahh! Ford didn't account for that!

C'mon, a little common sense has to be used here....

I have had a K&N filter in my truck ever since I purchased it in January 2001. I just turned 7,000 miles. I checked the air intake last night after the K&N Filter and everything was real clean in the air intake. Matter of fact I couldn't believe how clean it really was after hearing the problems encountered here. BTW I live in a area with lots of dirt roads and I travel them everyday going back and forth to work.

Thumbs up

I've had a K&N filter in my current truck for one full year...just inspected the intake tube a few days ago...extremely clean. My K&N is staying right where it is.

From a song by The Buffalo Springfield:
Paranoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid, step out of line and the man comes and takes you away. It's time to stop children, what's that sound? Everybody look what's going around.

PS: Did you know that Ford M-Sport sells the same K&N filter, except it's blue?

For those who are interested, Autozone couldn't order the ACCEL powerfilter they said, but Discount Auto could. Ordered it today. Will be in in a couple of days. I'll post a pic in my album of the filter and my other intake mod. I'll post the part number once I verify that it will indeed fit. Would hate to post the wrong number. It was $42.

Like I said before, this is just another option for people.
