Angry Fastest repair list

Well, I know some have had it worse than me and we should really feel for the guys who have had it rougher. I.E FQR head gasket problems. Some post's were really hard to believe and my sympathy goes out to you guys. Had 2 Nissan's didn't know any better I guess! And never had the problems that I have had with my Ford Experiences. '97 Ranger was always in the shop. Upgraded to a Dec. '99 beautiful F 150. and thought I would share my list of work orders with the Dec. '99 F-150. Week 1....Steering wheel loose. New steering box and other parts replaced. Leaf Spring Bushings had slipped back causing truck to squeak. Had both springs replace. Pass. side Head gasket replaced. Burrs. Maybe it will act up again from reading other posts...Maybe I'm in line for a FQR motor. We'll see! Hope not. Coil pac replaced, one plug, AC repair from not engaging at HWY speeds. The Ranger wasn't any better so perhaps I will be joining a GMC board if I decide to trade this in. I know we can say all truck models can have the same problems. My dad has been a Jimmy man his whole life. Never any problems so early in life. This is life but I'm thinking I can be happier with another brand. Forget about the built Ford tough commericals. The fenders, wheel wells and tough beds don't get me down the road. I'll never return to the smaller or foreign trucks simply because of size. But I do trust them more than I do Ford. But Dogs love trucks and I still enjoy my ride.

DUCKHUNTERnLAB, like the handle, but our one of many people whom have had bad experiences with Ford. You take a look at it, it started around mid 98 and each year has progressly gotten worse. Poor quality control, no new car production,(new models) terrible customer service, dealerships pi**** off with Ford. This WILL NOT change till the CEO of Ford is deported... I don't blame you, I'm on the edge, but NEVER a Chevy.....
Hope things get better

Cool

What I forgot to say is...I'm really not looking forward to any problems once getting to the 36,000 or 3 yr. warranty expiration. I think that if they are truly the #1 best selling truck then they possibly bank on that reputation just like you said, push them out as fast as they can. I'm sending an email to them. It's hard enough to make a living as it is let alone allowing these conglomorate corporations to bank roll millions without a hearing from us. Best to you too. What is more striking is I was going to be leaving for a fishing trip this week, so had to post pone it till next week. **** like this just Pisses me off. Nice day DogCam

Ford isn't the only one having problems. Some of my friends have new Silverados and have had problems ranging from steering rack noises to out of round wheels. If you haven't heard about Chevy problems it's because Chevy owners are tight lipped about problems which is opposite of this board.

I understand where you coming from Duckhunternlab. I had a 2000 Ranger that gave me nothing but problems, but I know Chevy and Dodge has their problems too. The Dodges are having 4wd engaging problems and my friend has a 2001 Z71 Silverado and the dealer can't get the check engine light to go off after 4 attempts.

I drive a 2000 suburban for a company truck. At 19000 a "service 4wd" message shows it won't shift into 4x4 most of the time. Also, once the heater starts heating, thats what you get. No way will air cond. kick in till it's shut off 15 min. Chevy dealer "can not duplicate--all OK". the a/c I can live with but 4x4 can get pretty vital.

Wow, Ford quality control must really be going down the tubes. My truck is 11 years old and it hasn't had half the problems you guys are having in the first year. It's ironic, as technology progresses you would think reliability would increase. I think some of these car makers are putting new technology into there vehicles before they have all the bugs worked out. I think i might just drive restored early 90's Ford trucks for the rest of my life!

I have had my truck for 3 years and 57800 miles now it was one of the last trucks built for the 98 model year, I picked it up September 24, 1998. It was in the shop twice for warranty items once at 19000 miles for a trans light, a seat belt squeak, and slow windows, and once again just before 36000 miles for anything I could find wrong, they replaced the tracks for both windows, going slow again, replaced speaker in third door(Buzzing sound), replaced rear Leaf springs(squeaking, worn out). Since then my truck has been fine, only maint. items. Brakes, Oil changes, fuel filter, coolant flush, trans flush, all as scheduled, oh and tires, nothing out of the normal for any vehicle. I programed some of the equiptment in the GM Bodyshops for the fullsize trucks and suv's so I know what GM is concerned with, they want 80 trucks an hour out of the plant, that means that the guy on the line has less than 45 seconds to do his job and be ready for the next truck. You tell me what kind of quality GM is going to have like that! I have heard horor stories of the GM trucks and serious frame problems. for instance on the early extended cabs if you put more than 500lbs in the bed the 3rd door would jam shut, as well as reports of people towing a trailer well within the weight limits hearing a noise while going down the freeway pulling over to check it out and having the frame break in half at the back of the cab. GM was shipping trucks to the dealer when I bought mine that had busted frames before even being unloaded from the semi and they were not breaking from being over tightened they were just plain and simple breaking. I have also worked on the new 02 Ram (That thing is Ugly and Junk). Sorry for the long post, just fell I should warn anyone who thinks they can do better with a shovie and dodge than a Ford. We all have our problems. All I know is that I have never heard of a Ford trucks frame breaking like the shovie's! Again sorry for the long post.

Hey, nice truck speedy, got my truck back today and it feels really awesome those first few miles driving home. Felt great actually the whole ride...I don't think we need to appologize for a post such as yours. Sometimes it takes longer to convey different situations and we all can benefit from knowing what's going on out there. I really enjoy hearing information like this and should drop in more often. THANKS. Personally, I do tow a T. Trailer and I thank Ford, that no frame problems exist here. Perhaps if I dropped in more often I would see that there are other truck manufactures with their own problems. What you described from GM is deplorable. If I were a GM owner who lived near one of their plants and I found this out; seriously, I would actually be there picketing, holding a sign demanding better work ethics. Also maybe being that these cars and trucks today are run by so much electionics, maybe the communication between components are not registering causing malfunction but I guess if that were true, they would have told me. Good w/e in MI. I'd go fishin if I lived there..

I've been really lucky with my 98 then, here's the problems I've had.
(1)Door crack, doesn't even cross my mind anymore(got over it)
(2)Leaking timing cover gasket, replaced under warranty for free(no more problems)
(3)Leaking pinion seal(replaced under ext. warranty for $50)
(4)Trans shudder(seems to have stopped on it's own? too wierd)
(5)Rough idle(cured by redline fuel system cleaner)
(6)Squealing belt caused by lose a/c compressor bolts(tightened them myself after three dealers could not find the trouble)
The battery recently went south, but you have to expect that with a 4 year old anything. The ownership of this truck has actually been quite boring in it's dependability. Not much more than oil changes,flushes,etc... It was built at the Kansas city plant,as a late 98. I love this truck ,,,,98

I've been driving fords all my life, well there was that couple of years from 73 to 77 with the Nova, but I've always had little or no real problems with them. My bigest complaint with my current one is a squeaking dash. Actually its my wife who has a problem with it, I just turn up the radio. But I've never found a setting loud enough to drown out her. I've had it in twice for that and they still can't isolate it it. Also the seat cushion seems to be flat on the driver's seat, but hey I'm a big guy, whatever I sit on for that much time would be flat. I also got the 1 inch radiator with the towing package but I've sat in a taffic jam at 90 degrees with the air on and never have seen the needle move much over normal. I keep hearing about folks with problems but thankfully I only hear about it.
