That is high. Check truck performance or performance products and I know there are others out there. Can't remember what I paid for mine but I know it wasn't anywhere near that much. You can installl yourself in less than an hour.
Good Luck

Silver99F150,
$299 does sound kinda steep. You can puchase the K&N FIPK from the online store for 219.95. I would suggest that you save the $80.00 that they are chargeing for the installation, and install it yourself. There are no special tools required and the instructions are pretty good and only took me about an hour to install.

don't forget you can get basically the same performance for $50 w/ a K&N filter installed right at the end of the hose. (Remove airbox). See tech article at F150world for more details on this. I did this and put a flowmaster 50 series muffler on and the engine is more responsive and satisfied.

Definitely install it yourself if you want the FPIK. It's not difficult at all. I did it one lazy Sunday morning, all in under an hour. If I had to do it again, I think I can do it in less than 20 min. I'm a novice as well, and I followed each step as meticulously as possible.

The pictures in the instruction are black and white, and sometimes features are hard to make out, but it's not exactly brain surgery. I'm sure people here can help you out if you run into problems.

I put the K&N FIPK in my 2000 Scab (5.4L) and it does just what I expected it to do . . .

. . . but, if I could do it over I think I would go with a replacement filter and modify the stock intake assembly . . . !

Speaking of 'stock intake assembly' - I have one available if anyone needs it! E-mail me at 'swampview@budweiser.com' and we'll work out the details.
