gauge questions
I know this is a double post. I haven't gotten a lot of repsonses to the other one so I'm going post it under engines this time. Steve, you can delete the other post in appearance products if you want. I bought a triple gauge pillar. I got a tranny temp and boost gauge so far. Now I need to decide on what other to get. I'm looking at a oil temp, air/fuel ratio, fuel pressure and oil pressure. What do you think would be most useful? I heard that the oil pressure gauge on these trucks read the same above a certain psi and that it doesn't change. I have no idea where the gauge takes the air/fuel ratio from, but if it is in the intake then cross that one off the list. Another question, where should I put the temp sensor for the tranny temp gauge?

KJ,
I, and many here, prefer the trans temp sensor to be in the hot or supply line to the trans cooler(s). Others prefer the pan, and yet others prefer the pressure port. Though the pressure port will read 10F-20F lower than fluid temp.
My gauges: Trans temp, Engine Water Temp, and Oil Pressure. Water temp and oil pressure are mechanical. For the oil pressure, use a stainless braided line: Don't use the cheap plastic tube that comes with it: Chafing and heat can destroy it.
The Trans temp gauge is electrical, and switched between the Trans sensor and the diff. When towing long distance (>1hr @ freeway), the diff temp would rise >200F! This motivated me to install a Mag-Hytec Cover: More oil capacity and other neat features geared towards easy maintenance. Not to mention that it's a very well made & machined part. Haven't had a long drive to see if there is a difference though. (9.75"/12 bolt)
At any rate, The oil pressure does vary with RPM: 30PSI @ idle, 65PSI @1500 (high end of ford's spec), and ~75PSI at ~3500.
Hope all this helps.
