Cool

Did the weather of temperature change? Did you fill up the gas tank? Were you on the same road?

My guess is that the computer started off with a set of default values that were necessarily rich. As you ran the vehicle it started to "learn" your specific engine characteristics and modified the parameters for economy. To verify, simply remove the neg. (ground) cable for about 30 sec (some suggest turning on the headlight switch momentarily during this period to discharge any stored electrons in capacitors and such) then reattach the cable. Now drive your truck and see what happens. If it idles a little rough but has the power you first experienced, then you know what is going on; if not, then its on to round 2 of the guessing game. BTW I lived in the Middletown/New Britain area from 1972 till the big blizzard of 1978 (graduate of CCSC)

if your engine was cold when you took off the first time it may have benefitted from an intercooling effect because it hadn't yet warmed up (incoming air/fuel was much cooler and dense that it was when warm).... this used to happen in my civic, but its not good to beat on your motor before it warms up...
