Post K&N vs. Airaid

So? One costs 220 (K&N) and one costs 200 (Airaid) Which one performs better?

Mike Troyer says they both perform the same, he prefers Air Raid because of the appearance.

Hi Silver99,

Between Airaid & the K&N FIPK, they're the same price here in the F-150 Online store and make the same power gains, 12 hp on the 4.6 and 14 hp on the 5.4 motor. Between the K&N and the Airaid, I prefer the Airaid unit thanks to it's more stable MAF mount.

However, the best airbox elimination kit by far is the Air Force One, and we've spent a good deal of time & effort studying & testing the various kits; it's the only one that still makes use of the cold air inlet on the fender, and has a unique venturi design to potentially accelerate airflow at that point. It looks much better than either the K&N or Airaid units, being made of highly polished stainless steel.

More importantly, the Air Force One kit adds more power than any other similar kit, thanks to it's superior engineering & design.

Typical gains run 15 horsepower on the 4.6 motor, and 18 horsepower on the 5.4 motor in the F-150 & Expedition.

The truth of the matter is that all 3 are good kits, in order of best overall they rank:

1.) Air Force One
2.) Airaid
3.) K&N

K&N has the 50-state emissions certifications, as does the Air Force One, they are just finishing their C.A.R.B. certification now.

Airaid does not have any emissions certifications and apparently will not have, the manufacturer (who is actually a former speed parts distributor that I know) will not certify it for emissions compliance according to what we hear, which is a shame. That is considered a rather serious deficit in that type of part by many people, and the Airaid unit doesn't impact the emissions coming out of the tailpipe, so they could certify it, they just won't.

I hope that helps to give some more perspective on all this, & best of luck whatever you decide!
