Jim
that sounds great
I agree that Ford can change the spec at any time
All of us agree on that
we just need to see it in print
so far all that's out there says hd cooling
gets the bigger radiator
I don't care if I get a 1.42 single or the
2 core just something bigger then the stock
one.
I'm looking forward to what you find out

Tray,
You wouldn't mind emailing the information on how I can contact the Denver Regional Rep., since I am in the same boat as you and also in that region.

Just thought I'd show you my response to the problem so far:

To Dealer
I just recently bought an F 150 Lariat w/ the 5.4 , off road package, and the class 3 towing package ( among other options ).

It is my understanding that the towing package includes the super cooling upgraded radiator which according to the Ford source book should have a 1.42" core. However my truck has the 1.02" standard radiator? I know that since StarFord is a Blue Oval dealer you will certainly be able to clarify this issue.

Thank you and I look forward to your speedy response.

His Imediate response

We looked at the source book says the 535 package comes with upgrade on the radiator. Which in our understanding is the thicker core. We feel you should come in and have us check it for you to clear this concern up.

Yours turly,

Star Ford Sales and Service Departments

So I guess this matter is dealer dependent. StarFord here in So Cal is a great dealership and at least appears to agree and sounds like they want to clarify the issue w/ me. I will post my results as soon as I go to the dealer this weekend.

Angry

ATTENTION:

FORD's WARNING

Without laughing, Randy went on to quote from this "engineer" : "The radiator has been redesigned internally to meet or exceed the original super cooling, just now it only takes one small core with little tanks."

I hope someone is a lawyer out there stuck with one of Ford's new "SUPER RADIATOR" f150'S for towing!

Help,
John Herron

Red face

Well guys, here are the quotes of the day from the service manager at Leif Johnson Ford Inc.; "The Regional Ford Service Engineer stated that 'any item is subject to change without notice, and this is one of them". Furthermore, he went on to say: "The radiator has been re-designed- internally to meet or exceed the specs for 'super cooling'", just now somehow done with half of the capacity?
He also stated that there was a "Special Service Bulletin" coming to the dealers soon, probably telling them the best ways to explain this away to those not using theirs for towing. This one runs hotter than my '97 with the same packages, just a 4.6L.

John Sport:
For those of you who have not seen any of the previous postings on this subject, there are a significant number of F150s owners that did not receive the upgraded radiator when they bought an F150 with the Class III tow package. They received the standard radiator instead. According to the 2001 source book, 2001 F150s should have a radiator core that is 1.42" thick. According to the 2000 source book online, the 2000 F150s should have a radiator core thickness of 2.2". The standard radiator for both years has a core 1.02" thick.

To check your core thickness look where the fan shroud meets the top of the radiator on the drivers side. I was able to push back the fan shroud with my finger. Look at the center portion of the radiator. If it is about 1.02" thick and you have the tow package, then you have the wrong radiator!!! I have counted at least 20 members so far who have the wrong radiator and I'm sure there are many more.

no need for a Lawer, just contact your local municipal court and file a small claims action against the dealer, to recover the money you spent for the option, civil cases are won by compilation of evidence, you have several sources to back your side, what will they bring to court, a piece of paper stating, "Ford has the right to change spec's"its a loser for them .

Harting,
It depends on which trans you have. According to my copy of the source book(ha ha I got one kiss my butt Ford), the 5 speed has the small radiator, 1.02 with trailer towing pkg. The auto has the same.
Sorry

Just emailed my dealer and sent him a copy of all the gripes about this rad problem.
Told him to check with Ford to make sure my srew comes in with the correct rad. Hope it works cause I would hate to be doing this after it comes in.
