Unhappy Delta Pressure Sensor

Has anybody had any problems with the Delta Pressure Sensor on an F-150 4.6 or 5.4? I have a 2001 4.6 and was just informed that this sensor is bad. With 36,200 miles the bumper to bumper ran out a few days ago and they tell me it's not covered under the extended 75,000 mile drive train warranty. Any words of wisdom?

I am not sure which sensor you are referring to. If it is the one that controls the EGR valve , then they should take care of it since ford has had problems with them and their is an updated part for replacement. The hard part is getting them to admit anything.

I belive there is a sensor referred to as the "DPFE" sensor. Perhaps this is what they are talking about? If so, it sure would seem to me that this would be covered under the extended warranty as it is not a normal wear and tear kind of item that is a part of regular maintenance such as filters, breaks, shocks, etc. that are not covered under warranty.

The DPFS (differential pressure feedback sensor) is part of the exhaust gas recirculation system, which is one part of the emission control system. It monitors the EGR flow rate between the 2 small tubes coming off of the inlet tube to the EGR valve and then sends flow rate signals back to PCM (computer).

Normally, the emission control system on new vehicles were covered by a state-mandated 5 year warranty in most states. Look in your warranty book to see how long the smog system is warranted for.

Also, there are two different DPFS parts out there...one model is prone to failure according to Ford mechanics and what Terry said above.

OK boys and girls, listen up I am only going to say this one time. It is a DPFE sensor (Delta Pressure Feedback EGR). And yes, rather you have the little black one or the larger silver one, Ford has had a ton of problems with them. Ask you dealer if they would do a P05 repair. You would have to pay 10-20% of the total repair cost. Since you have an extended warrenty you may not be eligible for a P05 repair. Check with your dealer. You may want to just buy a new sensor and put it on your self. Be careful not to damage the hoses. Also disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the KAM (Keep Alive Memmory). Good luck.

Toptech...listen up...I'm only going to tell you one time...look at your book on the name of that part. My Ford Shop Manual says it is called a DPFS: Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor for the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system.
