Angry Spark Plug????

I put a jet chip in my truck about 3 months ago. As I was driving down the highway one of the spark plugs blew out of the head. Do you think the chip could have caused this? I have the 5.4 motor and its a 98

Which engine do you have? I have read that some of the newer engines only have enough threads to barely hold the plug in, only 3-4 threads. If you search through the board I think you will find something on it. Hope this helps. Also, I seriously doubt that a chip would cause that type of malfunction.

Hi TreatJ,

No, your Jet chip didn't cause that. As "Matt90GT' correctly commented, those Jet (and Hypertech) chips only add power at WOT (wide-open throttle), so there is no real effect at cruise on part-throttle. However, even with a chip that does work at all throttle positions like the Superchip, that still is never going to cause a spark plug to come out of it's hole, you don't have to worry about a performance chip ever causing that type of problem.

Sorry to hear you had a problem, & hope it's easily resolved, good luck!

were you at WOT?

That is the ONLY time that chip does anything. Not really worth the money you spent unless you floor your truck all the time.
