Better gas mileage
Ive got a '99 f150, 4.6, auto, xcab, longbox, totally stock. What mod or mods can I do to improve gas economy WITHOUT sacrificing HP? I use my truck for in town driving, mostly for work. Thought about the chip but dont think it washes having to buy premium gas and the flip chip results on regular would be negligable. FIPK? More HP, but noticably better mileage? Cat bac? negligable gas mileage improvement, right? Just like to hear some opinions. thanks
Hey longbox
I have an 2001 f150 xcab short bed, here`s
what i have done to mine so far, first i added a k/n fipk small power increase, second
thing i did was add a 40 series flow master.
I lost a little bottom end after muffler
install, third thing i did was change the
factory Y pipe to a high flow Y pipe. Not
only did i gain back the lost bottom end power, i also had a noticable gain in the
midrange. AS for gas mileage, averaging 70
miles per hour i get 18 mpg. I also just installed two electric cooling fans so i need to check my mileage again.
I hope this helps you out.
Larry.

Remove the air silencers -- after the airfilter and in the tube from the MAF to TB.
Electric fan will for sure net you 1+ mpg if not more. That is about the only mod I can say for sure will improve the milage.

i met johnny lightning(lightning tuner/mods designer) just before i got my L. asked him about his ram air tube kit for my 97 f150 xlt 4.6 and he said his dad(or father-in-law--i can't remember) put his ram air kit on his regular f150 and he got a 2-3 mpg increase. am putting it on my L soon. dan

Hey superdave666
I got it from jegs, it`s called a Y collector
part# 389-Y250300A it cost 37.99.
Summit has them also for about the same price. my e mail is Ljb3742@aol.com maybe we can get together some time and compare trucks.
Take it easy.
