Question Heater core replacement...

I know this should go in HVAC but more people are here to answer in this forum.

The heater core in my truck is more than likely shot (anitfreeze smell in both heat and A/C mode, also leaking antifreeze from drain in firewall). I've already done a temporary bypass on the heater core so I could drive and breath at the same time. But since it will eventually get colder, I'm gonna have to replace it sometime. Has anyone ever done this on their own? If so, how hard was it to do? If not, how expensive was it to have it done?Should I take it to the dealer to get it done, or can any good mechanic or radiator repair shop get this done?

Thanks in advace...Scott

Ive done it maybe 10 or 12 times. It takes about 3 hours if you are used to pulling dashes and evap cases. I think it pays about 7 to 8 hours labor.

Rotties,

I did mine. It took me all day. I was not timing myself so the exact number of hours is not known. I work at home and a fair portion of time was spent going back into the house to answer the phone. The Ford shop manual is required. It has the complete procedure with pictures. If I had to, I would do it again.
