96 to 89 owners - how long are they lasting????

Hey guys:

This is directed to owners of 96 to 98 F150s. My 98 has 99.5K on the clock. And I'm very curious to find out how long these trucks of ours are lasting. Mine still runs like a top.

What high mileage failures are you guys seeing.

Please only 96-98 owners reply.

Thanks

Cool

I realized that I should not be posting at your request but remember that the '96 pickups were the old body style and didn't have the new modular motors either. The '97 and up were the beginning of the new body style and motors.

In your header you put 96-89, did you invert that last number by mistake?

If so, I have seen posts from folks getting 175 or better.

in the last couple of years, ive bought and resold a couple of 97 4x4 lariats with between 130-150k on them and other than a little piston noise on cold start, i never had a problem. I also work on 97ups with over 100k a lot at work and i think ive even seen a few over 200k come in for service.

well I know you ment to put 97/98 but since you accidently put 96 and I'm bored, here's mine...just hit 107k and still runs like new. Good truck, good engine, and a great Ford.

I have a 97 F150 4X4 with 126,000 miles on it.
New rear wheel bearings at 90,000. About 90,000 of those miles are highway (300 one way) highway miles. About 75% of those were pulling a trailer.
Still running strong.

I had an 87 F150 300 cid/auto. It lasted longer than my first marriage.

Thumbs up How long?

I have a 4.6L '98 with 108,000, tow horses every weekend, and it still loves to run. So far I put wheel bearings, axel seals, carrier bearings, plugs, heater core, front rotors and pads in it. I never promised it a rose garden and it has a hard life and I am nothing but pleased with the performance. Great motor, real work horse.

200k Plus

I've been looking in salvage yards for an XLT 60/40 split bench to replace my straight bench with, and have seen several F-150's there with over 200k on the clock. The highest mileage one I've seen had 270k, it was a 97 fleet truck with the V6 / Automatic. (Obviously all of these vehicles are the 97-98 variety without electronic odometers). Had a maroon interior also... seems to be a rare color?

For some reason i can always find this seat in Tan but never in grey!!! Anyone have one from a 99+ thats in good shape in grey, and willing to part with it??
