Filter Injection Performance Kits
I have been looking at these in the online store. I have a 99 F-150 with a 5.4. What would I see that is different if I installed on of these?
And I noticed there was 2 types, Either one any better than the other?
Thanks

You would see 12-14 HP and a loud sucking sound when you stomp on it. There are dozens of posts that you can search that already contain the arguments on which one is best; they perform similarly.

I like the Airaid. They're right that they give you aout the same performance so it's looks and preference.
You can see pic's of the Airaid installed on mine by clicking on the link at the bottom of my Sig. It mounts solid and I haven't had any of the noise issues that *some* have with the plastic tube K&N. And mine has never slipped off either
At the online store you can get the K&N or Airaid for the same price which is a great deal on the Airaid. It's where I got mine.

I have no sucking sound at all, mine is very quiet. The new s-crew has hood insulation, maybe thats the differance. I felt improvment in accelleration.

I recently installed an AirForce One and did notice an improvement in throttle response. I would rank the difference in power as being somewhat less than the improvement I noticed after the Superchip or Gibson.
AirForce One's instructions were excellent.
One note on plastic versus polished chrome,
there was polishing compound "deposits" inside the tube which I spent some time removing. There was also a warning included with the AirForce FIPK to be sure to remove the same deposits.
The polished chrome looks fine but I would probably opt for plastic without the polishing grit. I'm not sure how much damage the grit would have done being sucked into the engine.

I went with the Airaid. I like the looks and the metal tube, not plastic. As far as performance, I am sure they are pretty equal. Go with you're preference. I also found that this online store was the best deal for me on the Airaid. Easy to install and looks great.

I went with the K&N other than the annoying (somewhat) whistle I am trying to get rid of, I am generally pleased with it. I have noticed a appreciable increase in throttle reponse.

I've got the K&N and it's a great compliment for the other mods. I have to agree that they are all better than stock but how much better than each other is probably not even measurable ( at least not by the seat of your pants ). Go with what you can afford and what pleases you the most asthetically.

Actually I believe the gen. 1 FIPK is listed as the K&N Filtercharger Injection Performance Kit, while the gen. 2 is listed as Air/Fuel Injection Performance Kit. We can only use the gen. 2 on the '97-'01's so the one Jordan12 needs IS the Air/FUEL injection performance Kit. I've been looking into one of these myself.

Hey guys here is an idea JohnnyLighning is making a ram air kit for the regular F150. I should know I'm after him to get mine fixed and shipped to me, you can reach him on the Lightning section of this messeage board... He is really swamped right now but I figure if we get after him we could have him speed of the process of getting those out to us.

peties3,
No I never got rid of the whistle that it makes. I still havn't had a chance to call K@N but I am guessing there is no fix. Its just the greater volume of air that is being sucked though and now that the filter is out in the open its is very audible ?

I installed one on my truck. It did help the performance but,They are very loud and after I read another posting about the ends of the tube crushing (around the clamp areas) I checked mine and it too was crushed allowing dirt to enter the engine. It is your choice, I would not reccommend K & N!!
Just to give you an idea of what we see with the 3 different kits............
Either the K&N FIPK or the Airaid will give the same gains, 12 hp on the 4.6, and 14 hp on the 5.4 motor, with 10 hp for the 4.2 V-6 for the Airaid.
The Air Force 1 kit does make a few more ponies, thanks to a combination of making better use of the cold air inlet from the fender and the way it's filter is shaped to allow a straight-thru flow from that inlet. It's also made from stainless steel, and looks by far the best of the 3, and of course it's priced accordingly, so it's a bit more than the other 2 kits.
Between the K&N FIPK and the Airaid brand, we prefer the Airaid, as it has a more stable mounting design. These 2 kits cost the same and make the same gains.
Between all 3 of them, we prefer the Air Force 1 kit, as it looks better and adds a bit more power.
There is certainly a lot of truth to the saying that it's hard to go wrong with any of them, as they all work well to reduce the termendous amount of restriction that exists in the air intake tract, and all of them add nice power gains for the cost.
Best of luck, whatever anyone decides!
