4.55 to 308
Going to go with 308. got 455 gears now. how much will this help in gas miles.
Stock 1988 5 speed 302 fuel injected 4x4 full size... nothing special and looks good still...

it will help out 2 fold but performance will not be what it was at low end. but gas mileage will improve greatly (18-21)

Depends. Do you drive in town or mostly hiway? The 5-speed makes up for the tall gears in all but the highest gear. There was a post here not too long ago where someone was saying increasing your ratio 20% would put 120,000 miles of wear on in 100,000 miles. That would be true if all you ever drove in was top gear. I put 3.73's in the Mustang, which had 3.08's before. I'm still turning around 1800 rpms while cruising, I'm just a gear higher. It's only on the highway where I'm turning higher RPM. And even then I am about even since I never have to hit fourth anymore above 50 mph.
You'll just be going the other way. So where you used to be in 4th doing 30-35 mph, now you'll be in third to keep from lugging the engine.
BTW, you're truck will accelerate ALOT slower.
