Post F-150 vs. F-150

Alright, here's the deal.

Me and my friend plan to race to settle a friendly score.

My truck : 1998 5.4L 4x4
Shortbed, Flareside, Auto,
/w spare tire
MODS:
Ravin Z33 3" all around SI/DO catback
K & N Filter drop-in

His truck : 1999 4.6L 4x4
Shortbed, Extended Cab, Flareside
5 Speed manual, w/ spare tire
MODS:
Yokohama tires
K & N FIPK
Borla Cat-Back system

My question is, who would win in a race from a full stop all thw way to perhaps 80 mph?

He also has a system in his truck (amp and speakers).

I figure I will win b/c although I have an auto tranny, I have 0.8L more displacement, and am lighter (no extended cab or sound system).

His advantage is the FIPK and his manual tranny.

THEREFORE I ASK, who will win?

a 'race' to 80 mph is not the best way to go. especially on streets.

you guys really need to do a 1/4 mile drag race.

is there any other differences, like gearing and lockers that we need to know about to place bets?

No, gears are the same at 3.55 ratio.

Up here in Canada the best way to do it is to a certain speed b/c everything is wide open highway.

My guess would be that you would win. I've got the 4.6 with a five speed. It's a great truck, it's just that though, a truck. The manual has a long throw, so speed shifting is difficult. I think the 5.4 has more get up and go than the 4.6. I guess the only way to really find out is to race. Let us know!
Just a guess.

I say the stick wins, but he'll probably over-rev it like Jeremy Mayfield.

modestroman,

If you race to 80 mph it will be close. The stick if driven correctly will pull you out of the hole and should be first to 80 mph. Your 5.4 only puts out 235 hp and looses about 65 hp to the drive train the 5 speed puts out 220 and looses 50 to the drive train. Your mods add up to about 15 hp and the 4.6's add up to about 25. Ask your friend if he knows what a speed shift is. If he realy knows and uses it you loose if not you could win. BTW if you ever get to Windsor lets race.

Regards

yes i know what a speed shift is!!
and i can shift this truck pretty damn fast, ive raced many ricers and have beaten most of them (though i think shock of a quick pickup is part of the reason i win)
its gonna be a close race, but if there are any corners or traffic, i think i will take it cause im a little more confident and crazy with my truck, oh well, heres to a good match

my opinion is that the 5.4 would win, dont know what size of wheels the 5.4 has but the 4.6 has 17" but even with the same wheels i'd still go 5.4

You'll easily win, due to the automatic transmission and displacement.

Cool

I say 5.4! Mine pulls very hard to 80. The added wieght of his supercab offsets in driveline losses IMO. You still have that crappy soft shift from 1-2. I know some people here recommend letting up at a certain RPM in frist to let the shift happen quickly, then slam the gas and wind out second. You'd have to practice that I'd guess. If you have a chip to remove that crappy 1-2 shift, you'd definately win. Let's not forget about the torque differnces either
