Well people, it was a fun night of bad-*** truck drag racing, and here are the results.

There were four off-the-line races. To my surprise, each truck pulled EQUALLY as hard! In this case, it really was the skill of the driver that would decide the outcome of the race. My 5.4 won two of the four times, and his 4.6 won two of the four times. It was just a matter of who put their power more efficiently and quickly to the ground. In the higher speeds, I could notice my truck edging forward ever so slightly, but in the bottom end (less than 100 km/h) his truck pulled as hard if not ever so slightly more than mine. (damn 1-2 shift of auto tranny!)

So to all you would-be buyers out there, unless you plan to do some serious towing, get the 4.6 with the 5 speed and with about 1000 USD you can be as quick as the 5.4. Now you are all saying ha ha, you can pay ford 1000 to drop a 5.4 in there when you order it, but remember, you can't get it in stick!

IMHO, stick is a hell of a lot more fun than auto.

All in all, although we only raced to about 120 km/h, it was an exhilirating time.

On another note, for all you modders, here are the main differences between Borla and Ravin Z33, as noted by me during the WOT race. The Borla has more of a 'tuned' sound, in that, it is warm, not so loud, and is smooth. The Ravin gurgles like hell when u let off the gas, sets of alarms, and turns heads as its purely aggressive roar startles any unsuspecting onlookers. I prefer my beast-like Ravin sound, but I have to admit, the Borla comes in a close second.
Now why are there four catalytic-converters??? These trucks would rupture ear drums if anyone ever removed all four or even two of them! (hint hint chancey modders!)

BTW, do any of you other 5.4 owners get about 2 seconds of wheelspin with an empty bed under WOT from 0 km/h? I have another friend with a 5.4, same mileage, tires, but without the K&N filter and Ravin exhaust and he cant even chirp his tires.

Here's to pissing on Chevy and Dodge, and to the continued reign of Ford as the best damn trucks in the world.

I had a chance occasion to meet another F-150 at a traffic light. His was a 4x2 (driver only) Regular cab; and mine is a 4x4 SC (with passenger).

From the punch he quickly had me by a truck-length by the 1-2 shift (both slushomatics) -- and at the next traffic light I briefely expressed my humiliation -- but he admitted that his 5.4 had some intake and exhaust work (forgot to ask about a chip).

We did a couple second-gear runs -- where I was not auite as easily embarassed -- however his truck did pull me slightly each time.

So far, every race (except for the fellow in the Miata who was leading a long string of fellow Miata owners on a Saturday tour), Nick as proven to be a bit of a pooch -- but a friendly and faithful one.

Neal, i would rave you ANY day, over course with no expectation of winning, but just for the pure fun and beauty of seein how hard and fast ur truck can pull!!!!

Really, i was actually surprised that i didnt do better, but, i think i am a little too heavy to compete in straight line drags anymore. But, with the sway bar and the rs9000's, damn! i know i would take most trucks in the corners! i cant believe how much flatter, sturdy, and predictable this truck is know. definately two mods worth every sent!

next on the list: chip and 4.10's!!!!!

Thanx for all the interest in the race and the support to the ONLY truck that counts!!!

Hey Neal! Is that 30ft. take-off with the 29.5" tire diameter. I'm curious since I'm getting my 4.10LS in next week. I don't imagine my performance to be on par with that of course ( I think you have about 40 ponies more approx.) but I KNOW I'll be getting a decent amount of slippage back there...especially on a black-top. If you are running 29.5" tires I bet you're ET in the 1/4 would drop decently with a little smaller diameter.
Modestroman! Once you get a chip in there you'll get the best of you friend everytime LOL! I didn't see in your post if you had a LS diff or open. I typically get about a 3' to 5' burn-out both tires on black-top (no powerbraking!) with all my mod's to date and about 80lbs. of junk that always seems to be in the tonneau floating around.

Great thread modestroman AND coolsvile!

My first kill while driving a new F-150 (97-01) was a 1998 F-150 4x4 with a 5.4,auto. I was test driving a 1999 F-150 SC 4x4 with a 5.4, auto. When the other driver initiated the race, the salesman said, "take him". I didn't have to be told twice, I blew him away. I don't know the HP or TQ numbers for 98 and 99 5.4's, but there is a big difference according to the seat of my pants.

Hey Neal! Those kinda problems are the ones I look forward to !
BTW- I love all those tweaking mods you've **loosely** described in your sig. - Dunno how many ponies it adds up to but I have a feeling I won't be getting too close to what you've got any time soon. You ARE the HP Freak - Gotta Love It!

Depends on the road. Some roads theres no spin. I raced my buddy in his PSD tow truck and mine spun for about 5 feet going a little sideways. He was suprised at that and how quickly he was left in the dust.. That was a really smooth asphalt road. On concrete roads, it just goes.
