now that this has (by accident) turned into a thread about filter facts, I'm wondering if anyone knows how the teflon in the overpriced Fram filters improves the filter, or is it a hoax?

defacto,
By all accounts I have read, it is simply a gimmik to get your money. Also, I have read nearly everywhere to stay away from Fram oil filters--personally, I stay away from anything FRAM.

msparks,
Sorry! I read my sheet wrong-it is the Puralator Premium Plus filter, not the Pure1. How are the Napa and Wix filters different in capacity and filtration? I read that Wix makes filters for Napa. Do the "Gold" filters have a longer(more) filter element? Just curious, that's all.
I'll stick with Mobil-1 or Pure1 filters Would like to use Amsoil filters, but too hard to come by around here--would have to "mail order" tham every time.

Pat,
I put the graph up there to show that the Mobil filter is right up there. In my opinion, if you could get the mobil filter cheaper, the Amsoil one is $11 retail. My cost is $7.70. And yes you have to order them.

As far as other filter manufactures, I havn't done much research. I figure its a waste of time for me. I know what the top 3-4 are and that is what I recommend.

If you are interested, contact the manufacture and ask what there multiply pass effeciency rating is. Also find out what is the capacity. Also when you ask, make sure you find out what the SAE test # is. That way you can compare apples to apples.

And yes Stay away from any fram, the teflon ones are a joke!!!

Cool

Thanks msparks!! I only have one other question. Since you have researched "the big three", I have read that the major(and only) concern or downfall of the PureOne filter is that it has too much filtering element(and too many pleats), therefore reducing oil flow significantly(I still use'em though). Have you read anything like that or is what I read wrong? If this is true, is the flow reduction that major, or nothing to worry about?

TIA

Any info on the K&N oil filters?

I dont' know about the "too many" pleats. You would have found out what the flow rate is.

The K&N, from what I have "heard" and read, it that it is designed for racing, therefore has a better flow rated than the Mobil 1 filter, So I would guess the effeciecy rating would be lower than the Mob1 filter. Though they are both made by Champion Labs.

I have seen the K&N it is pricey. I would imagine that you could get the Mob1 or the Pur 1 a little cheaper.

Also note that AC Delco has a new filer out called the Ultra Gold. Supposed to be even more effeciect than the Amsoil, or Mob1. But I don't know if they are looking at single pass or multiply pass effeciency.

Cool

Thanks again msparks!! I know that champion labs makes many of the filters out there(STP, AC, Car and driver, Mobil-1 and a few others). But out of all I have ever read and seen, I couldn't seem to find anything on the K&N oil filters. So, thanks again.

you've probably seen this link before, but I'll put it in anyway. (Sometimes I can't get to the site by typing the link in the address box, but I have it in my favorites box, and all I have to do is click on it in there. Computers,LOL!--maybe you all will have some luck...) www.members.nbci.com/minimopar/oilfilters.html
