Post Fuel tank size

Lately I've seen a few people saying that they had 20gal tanks in thier 97 F150s. When I looked in my owners maual before all it listed for the F150s was a 25 gal tank. So was the 20 gal fuel tank an option on the 97 F150s?

Thumbs up

According to the owner's manual, there were 3 sizes. For SWB trucks 4x2 RC, 4x2 SuperCab @ 4x4 SuperCab it's 25.0 gal, 4x4 reg Cab is 24.5 & LWB is 30 gallons. Hope this helps - I KNOW I have put more than 25 in my tank - I look at how many gallons I just pumped. For what it's worth I have a 139" WB. Is that the long WB? From the manual though it is showing a 24.5 gal capacity. I dunno - I just fill till it stops & round up to next whole $ amount if it's <50cents worth.

I have often ran the tank low enough for the "low fuel" light to come on. No big deal around town with a gas station on every corner. Usually takes about 20 gallons.
Yesterday I left Houston with about half a tank on the way to San Marcos to move my son out of the dorm. I wasn't really paying attention to the guage so when I looked down and say the 'low fuel' light on I thought I was in trouble. The needle was almost totally on the 'E' mark. I had 16 miles to go to the next town. I think "surely there is one more gallon in there" and I slowed down to 60 on I-10. Gawd I thought I was going to get ran over! Anyway, made it to Seguin and filled up with right at 22 gallons. More than I have ever added before, but now I know I can probably go 50 or so miles once the light comes on.
