That's better moose-man, don't worry, I'll keep reminding you 'till you get it right.

summitman. since you didn't mention any loud rattling or knocking it's probably no more serious than a broken spring or a burned valve. Hey, if the heads have to come off anyway why not have them ported and polished? You might get to 100 even faster.

I am with you JDG. This is KPH since I was driving in Germany. Oh by the way, I was completely within the Germany speed laws. I am trying to figure out why they don't have problems with accidents. Oh maybe it is because they don't have the morons on the road that are not aware of their surroundings (in every direction) while out on that imfamous Sunday drive!

Ok, I only have one question to ask. How come nobody has noticed that the vehicle doing 100ish IS A CHEVY! I might be wrong but I know for a fact that my dash doesnt look like that. I'm all for speed and everything, but this is a ford sight. Thats all. Ok now, LETS GET IT ON!

No its not a chevy. Its my 99 Dodge 1500 4X4. I would have got one from my 94 F250 4x4 but it wont run like that with the 4.10's and 460.

Unhappy

Well they finaly got my truck into the service dept. Pulled the valve cover off and removed the valve keepers, so the valves would close. Pressered up the cyl and all the air comes out the oil dipstick tube. Witch means to everyone following along only one possiblity, HOLE IN PISTON!!!

Keeping on the subject. I also remembered reading an article somewhere about the +4's burning a hole in the piston.

Not on the subject. I live in the south. Believe me, on the freeway you rarely find someone doing the speed limit. The last time I was in Georgia all of the traffic was passing me and I was doing 95!! That was in Atlanta!

Here's a novel idea, let's just all be responsible for our own actions and quit trying to get other people to conform to our idea of what is moral or right.

Summitman - I'm sorry to hear about your motor.

By the way, I drive the freeways in Dallas and at 75 mph you will get run over by those behind you!

For the record, I am 45 years old and the Valentine 1 on my windshield is not a luxury, its a necessity.

Okay, I don't know if anybody posted this
and I'm not about to try and read all these
wide posts because somebody posted a HUGE
picture that made the thread go wide.

Anyway, check the fuel injection system.
Almost sounds like you had a lean fuel
condition in that one cylinder.

At the speeds you were going, a lean fuel
condition will cause that particular
cylinder to overheat. At high speeds and
engine loads, the gasoline sprayed in the
cylinder helps to cool it. Without
sufficient fuel in the cylinder, it will
overheat and can cause the problem you
experienced.

It used to be quite a problem with
outboard engines with multiple carbs.
One carb would fail and go lean. The
cylinders served by that particular carb
would burn/fail from excessive heat due to
a lean condition at high rpms.

Well boys I've seen it all now. We finaly got the engine out, pulled the head and there is no hole!!! Every thing is perfect(so it appers). We inspected the cyl walls and the cross hashes are still there. Not even a dimple in a piston. Not a mark in the head gasket. By looking at the engine you wouldn't know I had a problem with it. Then we inspected the valve and found it to be bent(intake). The next question is how did it get bent, theres not a mark anywhere expept on the spark plug. But would that be enough to bend the valve and how would it touch the plug?

Summitman ----there is no way that a valve and a plug can touch each other (they are both fastened to the head in different spots) The most likely way to bend a valve is by over reving the engine and the valve spring can't close the valve before the piston hits it and bends it. You could also have a weak valve spring that caused this. A valve can be bent and may not show up anything on the piston top. Make sure you replace the valve spring, keepers and a new valve also check the valve guide and seat. I bent one on a 429 SCJ and it ruined the block, piston and head. It was over reved a few miles earlier and the valve head literally fell off the valve stem $$$$. Be careful running full speed on the interstates. I have done it many many times but like they say (Don't do the crime if you can't do the time)

I know there is no way the valve can touch the plug, I ment somthing got through the valve and touched the plug.

I spoke with my Ford factory service rep today. He said Ford has seen a few of these bent valves in the past. He said only about 4 or 5 sence these motors have came out. Acording to Ford there are 3 reasons the valve bent.

1) Over reving the engine. But the factory service rep said, "This is almost impossable with the rev limiter and I was only turning 3000-3500 R's"

2) A piece of carbon came loose off the intake and fell through the intake valve bent it and went out the exhaust valve. That is y the electrode on the plug is bent.

Most possable-
3) The valve lash(opens and closes the valve) stayed open to long and the valve tryed to close but the lash stuck.

This is just what the factory boys say. The good thing about only bending a valve is the dealer cost on parts are only $150.00.

That's great! Sounds like you're going to get by cheaper than you thought. Yea, a stuck or floating valve hit by the piston sounds logical to me.

I live fairly close to the Dove. I'm only a couple blocks from the Broken Oar. Did you hear that they are going to up the interstate speed limit to 75? That's about as fast as I ever drive, so I should never get a ticket!

Thumbs up

Btr,
Thats great about the speed limit on the interstate. Now it should only take 1hr 45min to get to Fargo & I will get to drive a little faster.

Nice looking truck. Mine is the same color but, with 2 tone black on the bottom.
