I have a 1997 F-150 Reg. Cab 2WD, 4.6 auto, before any mods i was getting about 13-14 mpg. After getting Flowmaster 40 series DeltaFlow, installing a Superchip, and K&N, now i can get about 18 mpg. If i wasnt so lead footed i might get better, but i like to floor it alot with that superchip. guess it all depends on how much you like to torque as to what your gas mileage will be.

Cool

97F150SC5.4ORP you only have 15,000 miles on your truck and its a 97. So that means you only drive the truck a little less than 4,000 miles a year. Are you sure thats right? maybe you meant 150,000 miles? I wish I could keep mileage low like that

I am only on my 3rd tank. 2nd one on me. Dealer filled it once. Anyway I am very happy with the 16 mpg (328 miles on 20.489) I measured on the last fill up. Hope it improves with age and mods. I will probably get a soft tonneau as well as mods listed in sig.

JL

I'm getting between 12.5 and 13.5 per gal.
This is with a 7 mile drive, on back roads, to work. My driving style is a mixed bag of racer-X and granny-style.

With 3000 miles on mine, I'm getting 13.6 mpg rural city driving. I did a highway trip of 220 miles last week and the gage was still reading over half full!

Badd Andy:

One thing you will find out, that after the half-way mark on your gage, it drops like a rock! I get 100+ on the first 1/4 tank, up to 175-200 at the half-way mark, 250+ at the 1/4 mark and lucky to see 325 when the low fuel light comes on!!!

Casper II, I put another 105 miles on it with city driving and still had over 5 gallons left in the tank. Total average 16.75 mpg.

I too "usually" see the low fuel light on around 325.

theone,
A 98 short bed has a 25 gal capacity and the long bed has a 30 gal capacity. I am of the latter. A nightmare every week when I go to fill up. My it costs more to feed my truck than it costs to feed me!!

I have a 2001 long bed and it has a 25gallon tank. Did the pre 2001 have 30? I always thought were 25. I know mine is 25

DaveH Ford has always been 30 for the long bed and 25 for the short(24.5 for 4x4) I'd check again.

Its 25 I am positive 100%. I think I know when I am near empty and it takes 24.5 gallons to fill it. It also says in my manual. Mine is 4x4 with 8foot bed.

I have a totally stock 1997 F-150 XLT SC 5.4L 3.55LS 4X4 ORP with around 15000 miles on it. I get 13-14 MPG city driving and 18-20 MPG on the highway. Highway driving I will see 20 MPG running 60-65 MPH. 70-75 MPH will net me around 18 MPG. I seriously doubt that the 5.4L gets better mileage than the 4.6L but love that extra HP & Torque!

Nope, just 15,000 (14,??? Actual). I'm second owner. Truck had 12,414 on it when I bought it a month ago. First owner only home 1 month a year. So it was only driven 1 month out of the year.
