I use 5W-30 in Winter; 10W-30 in Summer; and if I ever do any towing in August in the mountains, will use 15W-40 for the pull.
What does Mobil-1 recommend?

ow-30 in the winter months--- 5w-30 in the spring summer months. that is what you should be using. never use any weight heaver than 5w-30. to heavy for our engines.2001 engines are another story. (5w20)

Ford sent me a bottle of touchup paint and a quick tips reference guide after I bought my '98. In the section for under the hood it states: engine oil filler cap SAE 5w30 recommended for all temperatures, SAE 10w30 optional. Thats the only reference I have seen for 10w30.

I use 0w30 year round with excellent results.
As far as filters go stick with a top quality filter, mobile 1 filter is a good one!

I have always used Mobil One Synthetic, 10W-30. I live in Richmond, Near Houston, so that has always been good for me. I put 10W-30 in my mother's Expedition 5.4. Ford reccomends 5W-30 but i like 10W-30, never had a problem.
