Lightbulb Response from K&N on FIPK performance during hot weather...

Hi All,

I recently wrote K&N to get feedback on the expectations I should have with my FIPK during the summer months. Although I previously thought that the impact of hotter weather would only cause about a 5HP degradation (which would be barely noticible), I have read other opinions on this board that indicate performance is impacted substantially (which obviously had me concerned). Therefore, I figured I would get the opinion of the manufacturer as well...

I have listed the response I got below for your review. Sounds like they make a good point. Any thoughts?

-----------------
Response from K&N:
You should not see a decrease in performance in the summer months, 100% hot
air is still better than 65% cold air. Even in the summer months our kit
still performs better than the stock air box. If you do not have a super
duty use part# 57-2514-2 (13-14 horspower increase). For the super duty use
part# 57-2525 (11 horsepower increase).

I don't know that 100% hot air is better than 65% cold air, I think it should be the other way around. If that is the case then why did my 92 Thunderbird Super Coupe have a intercooler? To cool the incoming air to make more horsepower.I will not run one of those filter paks I don't care what they try to tell you,you are sucking hot air from the engine compartment.

Cool

K&N e-mailed me on this as well. They said this: The increased flow "far" exceeds the warmer air degradation & If it needed a heat shield, we would add one, like we do on other models (These are K&N's opinions).
