Thumbs down Mobil not gonna make 5W-20 synthetic anytime soon.

I just ordered my new truck today and have been wondering about this oil issue. Use Mobil 1 5W-30 in my fiance's Taurus and last oil analysis was great! Want to use Mobil 1 in my new screw but also would like to stay with recommended weight. Anyway...was looking on Mobil's website and saw the customer svc number 1-800-ask-mobil. So I called. I told them that Fords recommended oil for 2001 is 5W-20 and were they planning on making it in their tri-synthetic oil. His exact words were "not any time soon. If more manufacturers start recommending that weight then there will be a large enough customer base and need for it. But nothing is in the plans for it real soon."
BUMMER! Oh well. Gonna talk to dealership when truck arrives and see if there would be any warranty issues if I use Mobil 1 5W-30.

Fortunatly Amsoil comes to the rescue.

Of coarse that is why Amsoil is "The First in Synthetics"

FRANK S:

That sounds great. Where in Flowery Branch are you? I usually stay with my fiance in Flowery Branch. She lives on Union Circle off of Union Church Road half way to Spout Springs. Right now I really don't "live" in one particular place. We are saving to build a house in Cleveland in the next couple of years. She actually encouraged me to buy this truck, since I had a good bit saved. Ordered it today and should be in sometime around 4-6 weeks. I cant wait.
I know my profile says Buford but that's where my fire station is. I work for Gwinnett County Fire Services @ Station 14 @ Hwy 20 and 23. You're the second person in the last two days from this area that I have found on this board...small world.

I don't really think the use of a superior oil (syntheyic) at 5W-30 over the reccomended 5W-20 (dino oil) will void your warranty. The manufacturer would have to prove that any engine failure was due to the difference in 20 weight over 30 weight. Remember the manual says "reccomended" not mandatory.

My $.02 worth.

I'm thinking of useing 10w-30 instead of 5w-20, is this wrong? everyone that I talk to says the feul milage would be very small. I'm just not crazy about the idea of water as oil. i have a 99 Windstar with 10w-30 full synthetic in it.

Sorry didn't mean to sound like a flame, actually Mobil 1 is a very good product and it truely is unfortunate that they won't be making the 5w20 soon.

It really sounds like Mobil Flamed themselves with the quote to Scooby:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">. His exact words were "not any time soon. If more manufacturers start recommending that weight then there will be a large enough customer base and need for it. But nothing is in the plans for it real soon."

I don't think that the Amsoil 5w20 would cost you $100 to put in your truck since it takes about 6 quarts at say $5.86 (the retail price)that would cost you $35.16. Hardly even close to $100.

As far as being hard to find, that really depends. I guess getting it shipped to your door would be hard to find? I don't know. Also I'm sure if you called amsoil they could point you to someone in your area.

... that was a flame? Are you two really that sensitive or just looking to start an argument?
