High Idle when cold - now Check Engine...Help!
Can any one give me an idea what to check?
The past 2 days when starting cold my 98 F150 idles high 3000 RPM+ and won't kick down. Eventually it lowers on its own and will be fine until cold again. Now I am getting a check engine light.
Any Ideas?
I just got back from the Ford Dealer, fighting about Brake Problems ($750 worth) and now this! They aren't getting any more of my money!
Any help is appreciated.

You may be pulling in air from somewhere around the throttle body or intake plenum
which can cause a high idle more so when
cold due to the already high idle for warmup
purposes. The additional air could cause the
check engine light to come on. You may want
to have the idle air control valve checked
also sometimes they can get stickey.
Not sure if this will help but some basic
troubleshooting may save you time and money.

Tyerant,
I have the same problem with my 1999 F-250. I brought it back to the dealer several times, and they said that there was nothing wrong with it. I'm getting tired hearing the engine race for several minutes so, this weekend, I'm going to reset the computer to see if that changes anything. Bugman.
