Question Best Synthetic Oil?

I am currently using Redline full synthetic motor oil. Many are suggesting Amsoil. What are your opinions/ experiences??? I'm thinking of changing because of price ( Redline $7.75 per quart versus Amsoil $5. per quart).

suggestions?

4.6ltr.

I would say without a doubt that Amsoil is the best oil I have seen or used.

I have seen numerous tests which prove this.

I use it in every engine I own.......weedeater to my $6,000.00 Mustang motor!

I will say, that basically any synthetic will outperform regular oil. Regular oil is OK if you CHANGE IT OFTEN! By that I mean.....change it as soon as it turns dark! Otherwise, use synthetic and enjoy longer drain intervals.

I have gone 18 months without changing my oil: Amsoil ( not on purpose, but it happened) and zero problems.

Thumbs up

AMSOIL, hands down, is the best by far. I've been using it for over 5 years in everything I own with nothing but wonderful performance. I like to tell people that my lawnmower gets better "grass" mileage with AMSOIL.

If you go by published test data, Amsoil is #1 but it is $5.75 a quart. Mobil 1 is not all that far behind at $4-$4.50 a quart. According to the published test data Redline and Amsoil are about equal.

Actually I disagree.........Redline had much higher scar wear than Amsoil in the tests I have seen.

As far as Mobil 1, I have just heard that they are pulling the castrol BS..........actually using super-refined mineral oil.........I am not sure of this, and I have always thought that they made good oil, BUT if they are hydro-cracking....not for me! Can anyone shed some light on this?

Actually I don't know if there is a "Best" oil out there.

You have to maybe narrow it down to "Best" at what??

Best cost vs performance
Best at marketing
Best at customer service
Best at longest drain

It's all about cost VS. performance VS bottom line, if mobil 1 can give same or close performance but at a lower cost, that is great.

Don't be suprised if another company does something similar to using a group III in their lower cost oils. As long as it works as advertised. It seems anymore that the term synthetic is more of a marketing scheme than an actual base stock.

I think in the future you will see even more of this melding of basestocks conventional vs synthetic.

my family and I have been and still are using Amsoil in all our veichles. We do use ut in our tractors, especially the play toy around here........1947 Farmall H. Anyway, we have not seen any problems with our cars and trucks. My dad keeps a an old 1985 Oldsmobile station wagon around here to hull stuff and pull crap around the farm here. It use to be his work car, but ever since he bought a new truck he uses that now and the station wagon for farm work. Well he has rolled up some miles on that thang since new.......246,243 on the odometer and DOES NOT burn oil, DOES NOT, leak and starts up with a quick turn of the key. We also use there engine flush, P.I Improver and there bypass fiters on all the veichles. Amsoil all the way!!!!!!!

Actually I have seen several tests that show Amsoil to slightly edge out Mobil 1 in various lab tests. It was in the monthly magazine that is sent out to Amsoil dealers....called ?action line?

Anyway, I saw them several years back (4 or 5), so mabey someone here has these magazine tests?

I will say that I do remember that Mobil 1 was a CLOSE second.

does anyone have any data produced by an INDEPENDANT researcher showing that amsoil is so great?

the whole amsoil mystique just seems like a big bag of hot air to me... i mean why and how is this stuff so infinitely superior to all other lubricants on the planet?

i'm sick of the constant "if you dont use amsoil you are smoking crack" type of stuff that you hear from people who use/sell it.

i want to see a REAL article published in something like an SAE journal that clearly shows that amsoil is better! dont just say it, back it up!

sorry if this sounded mean, folks, i'm just sick of hearing the same old tired stuff...

To answer some of your questions--Amsoil works as advertised.

Also you will never hear from me that if you don't use amsoil you are smoking crack. There are plenty of other oil's out there that perform very well. The truth being that if you take care of your equipment it will last. Some folks just want to make sure.

What you could do is:

Go to www.amsoil.com and email them, or get their phone number from the web site, call them or email them and ask for any test data they have.

The tests that I saw were done by an independant lab.

I also have a friend who uses oil analysis on his chevy turbo deisel..............all I can say is the numbers do not lie........even the tech who does the tests was impressed, with the results from AMSOIL.

By the way, like the other guy said: lots of good oil, use what you want.

My preference:
1) Amsoil

2) Mobil 1

3) ??????

Thanks everyone for your imput... I think I will stick with Redline for a while longer, but which Amsoil would you recomend if I have a change of heart. I'm running 10w-30 in my 4.6 now. Looking for a comparable Amsoil alternative. And, where can you buy the stuff???

I have a specialty performance store but they don't have amsoil.

I live in California, too.

Thanks to all!

I use royal purple myself... the oil is actually purple!!!

This stuff works equal to amsoil as I've used both... it's only 5.49 for the oem oil and 7.49 for the racing oil

soon to upgrade to racing oil to see if it's better.
