Well, I dont' put 25,000K in 1 year on my truck.

But the oil in there currently has been in there since las Jan 00. So I have had it in there over 1 year. About 10,000 miles.

I need to get off of my butt and do an analysis to see how it looks.

But yes there are folks out there running the oil as it was designed.

My comment is if you are scepticle when you put the oil in, buy yourself about 5 oil analysis kits. Take an analysis every 5,000 miles. you will then know for sure that the oil is even better than advertised.

BTW I am running the 0w30 Series 2000. It says on the bottle can be used for 1 year or 35,000 miles.

I plan to stick to conventional 5W-20 that FORD reccomends. Any engine will last 200K plus anyway.
However, I did look at a bottle of synthetic at WalMart last night. I wish for the life of me I could remember which brand (castrol, penzoil?), but it was a full synthetic and it suggested 3000 mile change!
Even a bigger ripoff to you synthetic users.

Question

What does Ford recommend for oil change mileage for the 4.6l & 5.4l engines?

I am here to tell you Amsoil is great stuff! No, I have no vested interest either, yes I am a preferred dealer but I only have the membership so I can get better pricing, I dont sell it to anyone. Now that my truck is broke in I am installing AMsoil this weekend. From past experience 35k miles is honestly nothing for this oil. My 94 Ranger with the dual filter kit ran 75k on the same oil, anylsis done every 5k miles. It was in excellent shape even with 75k miles on the oil. I just wanted to switch from 5-30 to 0-30 in it. Good friend of mine uses Amsoil in all his cars, his Cadilac has about 63k on its oil, testing shows it is still in great shape. His Maxima that his teenage son know drives (and drives the hell out of) now has I believe around 110k miles same oil. I am here to tell you, if you run that dual filter system this stuff will last!! Git ya some!!

Pretty impressive oil stories, Jeff!

But I like getting under my truck every few months and getting dirty. Impresses the divorcee across the street!

i dont drive much so i change my oil every 2500 mile or 3 months. if u dont drive much usually means u dont drive far. so what happens is the motor doesnt get to it running temp and moisture get traped in side and rust form in the motor. thats why i change every 2500 miles or every 3 months which ever comes first.

msparks- Is Series 2000 the brand?

newtruckforray- Based on the truck manual they recommend 3000 miles oil change for severe duty vehicles and 5000 miles for normal or light duty vehicles.

I am still changing it every 3000 miles. I am not sure if I will change that habit but I am open to changes and new ideas.

The Brand is Amsoil, the Series 2000 is the newest oil, with the best additive package and base stock. The Series 2000 is recommended for 35,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first.

I have watched the threads on the site about oil changes and synthetics a lot so I wrote to Ford to ask them their recommendation-they responded that they recommend 3000/5000 mile changes as noted above regardless of synthetic or mineral oil. I personnally use Mobil 1 because I think it will keep the valves longer and change the oil every 5000. Yea, I think it would probably last longer but I put 12,000 miles a year on the truck and it costs me an extra $30 a year to change the oil, hell I figure it is worth it.

yes--have '97 f-150 4.6 4x2 with 116,000 miles on it. i bot it used 2 yrs. ago. don't know what oil the first two owners used but i doubt if it was a synthetic. i,ve used mobil 1, redline, and/or royal purple for many years. usually run 10,000 miles before changing. i also use an engine flush each time on my high mileage vehicles.

Question

msparks- What is the price for the quart (or the unit) for the Series 2000?

Thanks for all the replies. As always, this is becoming very interesting.

Talking

Guys - way back when - I purchased a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 with V-8 and auto.

I drove it all over for about 7 years and I never changed the oil or oil filter in all of that time.

When I traded it in on a new one it was still running fine.

All this on conventional oil. If conventional oil does this why do you need synthetics?

I use Motorcraft oil in my 1996 F-150 and motorcraft filter. Still going strong with no problems.

As P. T. Barnum said "there's one born every minute".

My opinion.
