Post Oil Seepage

I just recieved the new Motor Trend Truck Trend issue for July 2002. Page 13 has an article about the 99-01 5.4L defective head gaskets. It doesn't mention anything about the 4.6L oil seepage. I have the 4.6 Romeo and it doesn't leak a drop of oil. My truck was built in 6/98. I'm curious. Do the 4.6 owners whose truck engines do leak, are yours the Romeo or Windsor built motors? If the 4.6 was going to leak, wouldn't they have started a long time ago? The 4.6 has been in service since the early 90's I think. Wouldn't those have started to leak?

I've got 75,200 miles on my truck now. If it was going to leak, I think it would have started to allready. Also, I run regular DINO oil. 5w-30 Valvoline. Could some people be using synthetic oil and causing some of these leaks?

The article states that Ford is spending $4500 per unit to replace the complete engine, but most are estimated to be $800 for new heads and gaskets.

i have the 4.6 romeo motor in my truck (99)

it started leaking probably around 40,000 with very small drops in the driveway.

i dont think there is a chance in hell of having a head replaced for around 800.00, at least not at a dealership.

the quote on my head was 1200.00 for the part only. i am sure that was list price. i can check that price to verify. i had one replaced out of warranty and it was a painful proccess (and pretty damn expensive).

as part of the same repair they also replaced my cats, and i know the ford cost is over 500.00 for each one. luckily that was under an emissions warranty so it could have been worse.
