Question Pusher or Puller?

Anyone using a pusher fan to cool their radiator? What is the difference between pusher and puller electric fans?, besides the location of the fan. Is one type better than the other? or is it all a clearance issue.

Cool

HI!... A "PUSHER" style electric fan is mounted in front of the radiator and blows it's air through the rad it'self. The problem with "PUSHER" style fans is that because they are mounted in front of the rad they reduce the air flowing through the rad when they are not operating because they are blocking the front of the rad. They ARE good though in situations where the engine is tight in the engine compartment and every bit of usable space is needed.

A "PULLER" style electric fan is mounted behind the radiator and sucks/draws ait through the rad. When the fan is not operating the cool air of driving can still cool the front of the rad well and is no way as much of a restriction to incoming air flow. Also when the fan is operating while the vehicle is moving the fan is not being stressed as much because it only has to suck through the incoming air that's already coming through anyways. The "PUSHER" style will only push as much air as it is capable of. If the vehicle is travelling really fast, faster than the fan can blow the air then it has become a restriction to the incoming air over the rad.

Hope this clears things up a bit. "PUSHER" good, "PULLER" better!!!!

Thank you Neal. That was exactly the information I was looking for. I appreciate the response. It all makes sense to me now.
