mid range miss

i have a problem: i have a miss in the mid range of throttle and i changed out my fuel filter today and put in a can of bardahles to clean the system out. took it for a drive around dallas and it seems to be no improvement. plugs have 30000 and the plug wires are original. thinking of changing those out. no code shows on scan. any ideas

How many miles are on those wires? Only thing I can think to do. I had a problem with mine as well like this. Turned out to be a COP failure. But before it was known that I had COPs, everyone was telling me to change out the original plug wires because they failed after ohhh, around 50K. (I'm trying to remember). Sorry that I'm not more help. Thanks for the help on the exhaust TexforD.

COP is Coil Over Plug in the 98+ 5.4's and the 99+ 4.6s. Each spark plug has it's own coil mounted above it.

Yup...if they are like the mustangs, then what you have are EDIS coils...don't know the translation on that one. I'll look for that thread but it was a while ago.

Edit...yup, it's been over a year since I had that problem so the post is toast. Sorry. If you've had the truck a while...might be time for the plug wires to be changed anyway.

I won't know how she sounds till I get the top of her put back together. Today I figured I'd clean up the upper and lower intakes. Took the plastic sheild off the lower intake and found an insulation cover that basicaly turned to dust when the cover came off. Won't have that till friday. That's ok. I'm heading back to Detroit tomorrow at 3am. Coming back with a never used 99 Cobra long block!!! Let me know how you make out on those wires and your misfire. Did you by chance test the coils? I can look up the thread that I posted on on Stangnet a week ago or so trying to help someone there figure out thier troubles. Good luck.

Angry

By all means change the plug wires. My wires went out at 27000 miles. So much for the 100,000 tuneup sales pitch.

I didn't get a code either so I went to the dealer and paid the big price to find out what the problem was. The plugs were fine but the wires were toast. Good Luck!!!

Sometimes it's a bad plug too. But for a misfire all it takes is either one bad wire or one bad plug or both. Mine showed a code though. (98 4.6)

Not mine! It's Kiana Tom from Espn2's flex appeal.

How's the truck?

Thanks. I already started polishing the inside of the intake. Next stop, home port the heads. I pretty much ordered a complete suspension from Maximum Motorsports today.
