Spark plug wires???

I've noticed a slight random miss when the engine is under load lately and a check of the wires found some spots on a couple of spark plug wires where they made contact with a metal piece on the engine and may have been arcing. Having adjusted the wires to eliminate this rub, the miss went away. Kinda seems as though I may need new spark plug wires.

Where do I look for some good replacements?

Buy you a good set of plug wires from someone other than the dealer. My plug wires expired on me with only 27,000 miles on them. The truck was shaking like I was riding a wild horse. So much for the 100,000 mile tuneup sales pitch. Also they will charge you 65 bucks just to install them. Stay away from the dealers and save big bucks.

I agree.

Unfortunately there isn't much choice in performance (ie. GOOD) wire sets for our trucks. The choices are OE Ford, Bosch (like OE), Accel Super Stock (slightly better) and I think they have a 9000 series which are better also but no 300+ style race wires unless you make your own custom set. I may go that route.

I installed Accell super stock wires and was very impressed with their performance. I noticed immediate throttle response improvement. I have a 98 4.6.

I just put a new set on my pickup, and I bought them at NAPA. They are made by Belden. They seem to be very high quality, and they do have two clips that hold the wire on the coil pack. I went w/ the lifetime warranty version so I won't have to worry about buying another set ever.

I have had two sets of the stock Ford plugwires, and both started missing right under 30,000 miles, so I would have to agree.

My current experiment is wires from Pep Boys, I believe they are Borg Warner. They fit good, and seem to be of decent quality. Only 10,000 miles so far, in another 20K I'll report back how they do.

There are no spark plug wires on the 5.4. It uses a coil on plug setup.

FWIW, I got 112,000 miles out of the original set of wires with no problems whatsoever. I replaced them as a preventative thing rather than an actual need. I put in the Ford OEM wires and have nearly 40,000 miles on them with no problems.
