Your dealer sounds like mine. They don't want to repair it. Shame that they will not get my business and my friends business anymore. In the source book, it states you get the radiator upgrade "package" when you purchase the towing group. And this mid year change crap won't float either!!! Mine was built 9/99 and has the wrong radiator? It looks to me that if they changed specs that 3 years is ample time to change brochures and the source book!!!
My two cents worth but it still hasn't gotten a radiator yet.

Thumbs down

I faxed it to Leif Johnson's Service Manager. Certainly no response yet.
I thought the slapping pistons were gone by my engine build date of 7/19/99? My final production date was 9/9/99, ordered 6/25/99.

Ford has got to have legal exposure! Any help on that?

Mine too was built during 9/99 and it also has the Ole' Slapper 5.4. I don't want mine replaced for fear I will get something worse than I have now. Mine showed up with 3k on the odometer.

John,
Sorry to here about your experience with LJF. I've got an appointment tomorrow with them to have my radiator situation looked at. So far, they've told me over the phone, the problem would be taken care of. They were just trying to figure out who was going to pay for the correct radiator, Ford or LJF. Call LJF back (not Truck City) and ask to speak to Randy Rogers. He knows about this problem and so far has been very understanding. He also would like to check my SuperCrew to make sure I have the correct "heavy duty" shocks and transmission cooler that's supposed to go with the Class III tow group. I'll keep everyone posted as to how things go.

John, if you want here's my e-mail address. Drop me a line and we can exchange information on our dealer here in Austin.

Question

Dear Ron,
I hear by now you just got sold a bridge! I loved Randy Rogers' quote from the Regional Ford Service Engineer, "the book says any item is subject to change without notice and this is one of them"! The "radiator has been redesigned internally to meet or exceed the 'super duty' cooling requirements, now with just one small core!" I have know Randy for years, these are the most amazing words to see him spit out.

Smell the smoke; the smokescreen a coming! They look like they intend to sidestep this issue completely with a "Special Service Message" soon! You tell me how Ford engineers have succeded at anything as extraordinary as cooling with half the capacity! John

What makes you think there'll be a "Special Service Message"? Did someone in a position to know tell you this?

Lightbulb

Either the Ford Regional Service Engineer or Kevin Hoppers stated there was a "Special Service Message" coming to the dealers soon. This doesn't mean they'll correct anything, they just tell their service writers and managers what story to use on this one!

Well if they came up with a better radiator
why do they still use a old 2 core one on the lightnings?
I would think that they need the hd cooling
more then anyone

For Jim Wright et al:

I can see the writing on the wall with the Special Service Lie .....I mean Message that Ford corporate will be distributing to their dealers. I think it's about time to contact the Big 3 TV Networks' consumer news correspondents. Picture Mr. Jacques Nasser screaming behind his CEO desk when he hears about this latest saga: "Oh criminy . . . who's the blighter that screwed this wallaby up?"

well just heard about this problem yesterday. so i called my dealer and talked to and explained the problem with the service manager. said he hasnt heard about it but would check on it. he called me today and talked to ford engineering and they said they were aware of the problem but told him they dont know what theyre gonna do yet. anyway he ordered me the 2.2 inch. with no problem should be here in a few days. im still in shock. thought it would be a long battle with ford. guess not.my truck is a 2000 4x4 lariat with trailer towing group, classIII.
