FIPKs VS Filtercharger
Here again I petition the almighty gods of the F150 Online forum for a bit of their wisdom, experience and knowledge.
I'm debating about installing an FIPK system or not on my truck. The reason for the debate is that Air Raid, K&N and Air Force One all make them.
I've already installed a Filtercharger which claims a 15hp gain. I noticed a performance increase but I also noticed that the FIPK's claim 15+ HP gains. Is this INSTEAD of the Filtercharger or IN ADDITION to the Filtercharger's efforts (as I noticed all the air filters on the FIPKs look like K&Ns)?
Further, will this impact the performance of the Superchip I recently installed?

All I know is I sure wish someone would hurry up and make one for my truck and engine.

Well i'm no mechanic Caelistis,But my airaid fipk just arrived today! I looked at all three fipk's you mentioned the k&n is plastic and from what i've read here the bracketing isn't very sturdy' others say they love the k&n for me I'm not into the plastic tube! as far as the airforce it's a little more polished and expensive! But i have heard good things about it. So airaid by default good bracketing combined with the billet tube and the option of black or polished and cheaper than the airforce 1.
thats my reasoning anyway goodluck with your project!I Expect that it would be a nice addition to the chip as i am sittin here waiting to recieve mine! If you want you can post your ? in computer Chip section and Mike T The Superchip guy! might help with the real numbers on what you could expect!

Hey, a Filtercharger and a FIPK are the same thing, just have a different name. The only difference is the filter you get with the tubing, i prefer the K&N, and I know it comes with the Airaid and obviously the K&N filter chargers, not sure about the AirForce1.
Ok, I'm guessing here, but a logical assumption. The only real difference b/t the fipk and the filtercharger is the loss of the stock filter airbox. Having the filter open and exposed allows for easier flow of air to the filter where as with the box, the engine has to suck it through the filter. The guess is, since it's the same filter, maybe a 5hp difference in favor of any fipk. If it matters to you, 5hp might be worth the extra 100. I'm sure you could get better numbers somewhere in here though...

Isn't the FilterCharger just the name of the K&N filter and the FIPK the name of the K&N Fuel Injected Performance Kit?

yea murfster the filter charger is just the million mile filter, the fipk <fuel injection performance kit> is made by all three companies and yes all fipk's lose your very restictive airbox! The only difference i see between the three is bracketing and tube construction the supposed hp numbers are all simular between the three.
The filter alone only adds a few HP; the FIPKs add 12-14HP.

Max said it very well; a drop-in K&N air filter element in the factory airbox will add about 5 hp on the V-8's, and about 3-4 hp on the V-6 F-150's.
Using either the K&N FIPK kit or the Airaid kit (they're both airbox eliminaiton kits), the 4.6 gains 12 hp, and the 5.4 gains 14 hp. The Airaid for the V-6 adds 10 hp.
I know that the Air Force One kit claims more of a power gain (just a couple of hp) than Airiad & K&N, we've never seen what it really does on a dyno though, so we figure it will get you at least as much as the Airaid or the K&N airbox elimination kits. It's a beautiful kit, for anyone looking for the best underhood appearance, that kit is very nice.
The bottom line is that it's hard to go wrong with any of the airbox elimination kits, they all work well and add nice power gains above & beyond what a drop-in K&N air filter element in the factory airbox will add.
I hope that helps a little bit gentlemen,

Latest issue of Petersen's 4 Wheel & Offroad does dyno testing on about 8 different FIPKs, filters, etc. All were done on an older modle Chev. with 350. The Airaid picked up about 8 rear wheel hp and simular ft./lbs. It beat all of the other systems tested.

What were the results of the remaining 7 FIPK's tested?
