Question Radiator Situation

I understand people are concerned about the "wrong" radiators that came with the towing package. It seems to me that some people are flying off the handle a bit. Has anyone got any evidence that Ford put the radiators in by mistake or on purpose to somehow con its consumers? I've seen two articles(one on this posing board) that stated Ford switched the style of radiator during production. It seems most people are concerned that the radiator size is smaller. Ford has said they switched the radiator to a more modern more efficient style. No reason to panic because it isn't as big as the old one. I know some dealers have switched them for some people just to apeaze them. That is just good business in some cases but you cant expect all dealers to change radiators at there cost. Ford is guilty of not spreading awareness to the dealers and customers regarding the change. Because it is a value add people will be concerned that they get what they pay for. What it comes down two is...Has anyone had any cooling problems? Over heating? If so, I then see an issue. The radiators aren't doing there job. The new radiator is said to cool as good as the old, hence some of the part number confusion. It replaced the old style so I could se it having the same or similar part number. Jim Wright if you are reading tis I have a question. You stated that the towing package was very important and the main reason for buying the Ford. If so, why didn't you inspect the towing package components before buying the truck? You would've easily noticed the radiator size and could've questioned the dealer at that point. If you were satisfied withe their expanation, buy it, if not then don't. It's seems everyone should get all the facts before jumping off the deep end. The rad is smaller, if it is working and your truck doesn't overheat when you tow then it is doing it's job. I'm sure a large car company isn't going to try and slip in a standard rad when in the towing group to save money. It is a value add. If the rad adds $200 to the vehicle cost, then the customer pays $200 more for the vehicle. I would look into this further but it doesn't effect me. I looked at the towing package as I am planning to buy a travel trailer. I didn't bite on it. If I have cooling problems later then I will add aftermarket components to resolve the issues. I know I can get a better rad, shocks and tranny cooler in the aftermarket. Anyway that is my perspective on the issue. Jay.

Thanks for your posting. I would just like to have written proof of the change. By evidence, 2000 and 2001 Ford Source Books, you can see that they made a change in size of the radiators meaning that the 2.02 went down in size to 1.42. That I can accept. But there is no proof now that the 1.02 replaces both radiators. If you can produce that information sir, I will shut my f##*ing mouth and quit crying.

I will try and dig something up. It's something that should be resolved. Jay.

SVTCobra - would you be kind enough to carry any future threads in the on-going posts section? It best if we can keep all these consolidated as much as possible for easier tracking and dissemination of info.

Thanks for joining in!

I'll agree that ford did switch to a smaller radiator (1.42) for the HD cooling in 2001 but the 1.02 is the standard radiator
it's the same thing that comes in the truck without buying into the HD cooling option?
and if they have a new better cooling radiator (1.02) why don't they put it in there Lightnings? they still come with the big 2 row radiator.
every thing in print so far shows that HD cooling has a bigger radiator
I've been told & read allot of different reasons why there is not a bigger radiator but have seen nothing in print
It comes down to,bigger might not be better but I paid for it give it to me

I and many others paid for a larger radiator, and were told in no uncertain terms that we would get one. We didn't. Ford did not remove the larger radiator from the spec in a single instance that I or anyone else has been able to point to. All this is clear.

If you didn't want one, fine, you didn't have to order one. I did order one, and paid for one, and I didn't get it. Neither did hundreds of thousands of other owners. If you think I should have to inspect each component closely under the hood before I drive off the lot to make sure every item I explicitly paid for is actually present, or I'm on my own, your standards for good faith and fair dealing are a far sight south of mine or our society's. Ford sold a product and didn't deliver it, whether on purpose or by accident, and I expect them to stand up and do the right thing by their customers. Plain and simple.

P.S.--> If you looked at the other threads (and please move this discussion to one of the other two, don't want to have too many threads on this), you'd see that in my very limited research I've already uncovered at least one case of someone who was having serious overheating problems because of the smaller radiator that were fixed when the correct unit was put in by the dealer.
