Post Artificial limitations on the 4.6?

My daily driver is a 4.6 longbed.

On WOT, it hits 95......AND STOPS. I can friggin HEAR the rev limiter kicking on. What's with that?

Possbily tire considerations? When I got the truck, new, it had Dunlop Tourings on it that are 120+ rated.

I'm about to purchase a Superchip this Thursday and I'm wondering/hoping that it'll take care of this.

I plan on ordering a superchip from Mr. Troyer this

Caelistis,
That chip from Mike T. will get rid of your top end limiter and rev limiter. I outta know..I have one Before I couldn't rev my 4.6 over 5500 and the other day I had it to 6000
No more of that though...LOL

Further.....on the Superchip side of things.

The code appears to be FOU1, however, I am unsure if this is the right code as I have not seen one in that range yet posted on the boards.

Thanks Phoenix, I appreciate it.

Being that this is the first vehicle I've had new that was worth doing anything with, I fully and truthfully admit my ignorance in the matter.

Thankfully, places like F150 Online help bring folks like me up to speed.

Cool

No problem on the info. I'm still somewhat of a green rookie to all this too since I got my truck. Same story, first vehicle worth modifying
As for your code, it sounds correct. Usually it consists of 3 letters and a number. Like mine IMP4.
Any yes, this board rocks in terms of the info that a person can pick up. Keep hanging out and you'll be custom porting yer engine in no time...(well, mabye not THAT far )

HI Caelistis,
The code you gave (FOU1) is correct, I have the same one in my truck. When I ordered my chip from Mike at superchips he told me that this was the same program they used in the Nascar edition trucks. Supposedly it gives you a little more performance. I believe somewhere around 5-10 h.p. If you want the exact figure you could call him and he'll give you the exact number. He's very helpful and really knows his stuff. You'll be very satisfied with the chip. Good luck

RayCee,

I find that funny as Hell. The reason? According to Ford, my truck is part of the WS (Work Series) lineup and shouldn't even HAVE that engine in it.

I swung it around my local Ford dealer and asked about it. Sure enough, it is a FOU1.
Gentleman was most amused by it as well.

Great equiptment on a "Work Series" !! What year? My 2000 brochure lists an available 4.6L or 5.4L in the WS, XL, or XLT. I searched a ton trucks to find the "goodies" on a XL. The rev limiter is based on the tires, but it's great that you have higher rated tires (you'll be all ready after the chip). Not to mention that WS and XL trucks can be lighter. Happy Truckin'

My truck is a nascar edition. that is your computer code because i have the same code. and yes it will get rid of your speed limiter. I haven't been able to get my truck to shut off yet with the superchip.

Hey Max,

It's a '98 that's pretty stripped down. Not even a cassette player. Felt lucky to get AC with it. But I bought it on the cheap figuring I could always do add-ons later. "Later" has become now.

I've heard rumors of polished 5.4 heads being easy bolt ons to the 4.6. Anyone know the truth of this, approx. of cost, et al?

Question

Are you saying the FOU1 chipped has even more gains than other computer codes?

When I ordered my chip from Mike at Superchips and gave him my code # he stated that it's the program used in the Nascar Edition trucks. Supposedly,it gives them somewhere around 5-10 extra horses. Can't remember the exact number though. Looking at 4ord_man post I guess it's true. You can always call Mike and confirm, he really knows his stuff.

I am not for sure on the hp gain,i installed my chip and an electric fan at the same time, and it felt like my truck grew some b@lls. but i think you wont get as much as a gain as others because the fou1 code is already more aggresive than others.(i think,,,could be wrong)
