Plog wire/coil pack troubles...
Bubba (98 Lariatt, 4.6, automatic, 23K miles) got a real bad coughing spell over the last few days; BAD misfire at 1/2-1/2 throttle with low revs, and surge at higher revs. Took it in to the dealer, who diagnosed a bad coil pack and replaced the plug wires. Since it was covered under warranty, I didn't quibble, but it seems WAY early for plug wires to be going wonky, and the quick coil failure is a cause for concern.
Has anyone else had coil pack problems? How about wires? On my old 93 Crown Vic, I ended up replacing wires every 3 years/45K miles or so; almost the same time for Bubba, but way lower miles. The concern is that I'll have to do the same again (and on my dime), and the coil packs and wires are several hundred $$$.

<What are plog wire >
Well, o and u are both vowels, and near each other on the keyboard, and, well, if you fat-finger...
Anyway, the above is much like the song-and-dance the service advisor gave me when I brought the truck back today; picked it up last Thursday, and it didn't stay fixed over the weekend; the misfire got pretty bad, with a consistent miss at wider throttle openings and low RPM.
Today they gave it to a different tech, who came up with the diagnosis of an EGR transducer, which they replaced. Truck ran OK when I picked it up this PM; we'll see if it stays fixed over the next few days.
Good thing this was a warranty job; I'd have been REALLY PO'd with $$$ for coil and plug wire that did nothing to address the misfire concern.

My truck is going in the shop (for a second time) for the same thing. Fist time they replaced the plugs and that was it, cured the problem for 3 days. Then the Check engine light came back along accompanied by the misfire. Just bought the truck a month ago. I love the truck when it runs correctly. But it is quickly becoming a chore since it is out of warranty.
