Computer Reset??
Does anyone know how to reset the computer on a 98 4.6L V8 I have programmed it with a buddys hypertech computer and I don't like it because my truck is not running right so I want it back to stock. HELP??
regalman,
Disconnect the battery terminals and then turn on your headlights. This will reset the computer (turning on the lights drains any remaining voltage in capacitors, etc.) to a default stock condition.
I did it over the weekend to erase a bogus "check engine" code and the truck is running better than before.

Make sure you turn off the headlights before you re-connect the battery !!

regalman,
If I understand the Hypertec system, it trades your program for the one stored in the
programmer. So your stock program is in the hypertec module. Resetting the computer will do just that, it will not restore your stock program. BTW on the 98 inside the engine compartment there is a Engine mini-fuse block. It has slots for 6 mini fuses. Pull the first one 5A. This is the PCM Keep Alive Memory. This will reset the PCM and keep your radio station presets. No need for the head light thing.
