'98 F150 questions...look inside!
I recently purchased a '98 F150 Extended Cabwith the 5.4L V8. It had only 18,000 miles on it! It was taken care of and driven by an older man who traded it for a new Supercrew (4 door). I was just wondering any and all things i should check for and flaws with the '98. It still has it's warrenty of course and i'd like to notice everything i can. I saw the post on the door crack, and upon looking, i do have a very small hairline crack. It's only about 1/4 an inch. Is this under warrenty? What is Fords stance in this? What will my dealer say?
What else can everyone tell me? You guys have a great community going. Thanks for helping!

I'm not sure about the warrenty work, but I think it should be covered. Someone recently posted an actual TSB number, so it might be easier to get something done now. Before I think it was kinda hit or miss whether the dealer would do something or not. One thing I would like to mention is that you might want to find out the original sales date of the truck. If it was sold in late '97 or early '98, the "3 year" portion of the "3 year 36000 miles" could already or shortly be over. Back to the warrenty stuff, other issues I know of...
1. Piston slap.
2. Leaking rear sliding window.
3. Small roof cracks similar to the door crack.
Those are the only two things I can think of. You can do some searches on those and get alot of info about them.
Good Luck and welcome aboard...

Tiron nailed the top 3 to look for. The majority of the oil leaks were in the 99 model year...engine casting flaw. A new TSB was just posted in another thread about the door crack problem.
The small roof cracks he mentioned are in the water channel, along the inside edges. I had this problem with my 98 Supercab..and they ran almost the entire length of the cab. Dealership claimed it was due to the clearcoat being too thin in the channel...who knows for sure.
