Post The F150,000 Mile Club

I couldn't find any similar thread on this topic so here goes... Who has broke the 150,000 mile mark, what's your secret to high miles etc. A lot of talk about different oils, supercharged engine life, differential modifier in ATF, etc., etc., etc... Let's here from the high milers what works so mayby my ride will make it too...

I have 105,000 on my 97'and it is still doing good but it's no where near 150,000 but getting close. I read one thread about a guy that got 300,000 out of a 5.4 and I believe that he had very few problems with his truck.

My F150 is too new but my 93 Aerostar 4.0L has that many. Its just been maintained regularly. The most I had to do to it was rebuild the rear end. The pinion bearings where scored. I think this happened due to a leaky seal and the diferential getting low on oil while pulling a 22 foot trailer. I had towed this trailer many thousands of miles to the maximun towing capacity for the Aerostar and the engine and tranny have not been touched by a mechanic.

Have a 95 Aerostar at work, thing has had the crap beat out of it, and is lucky to get an oil change at 10K miles. It has the 4.0L and is now on 143,000 miles. Everyone who drives it hold it to the floor and drives it like they stole it It has the original transmission (how I do not know), and the engine has never had any work. I am impressed.

We also have a crew cab F350, 96 MY, with the 7.5L big block. Second transmission, but 138,000 miles and it is still pulling trailers every single day, and fast too. It has a Banks Power Pak, and has never been serviced too good, and has always been abused. This truck tows a few times a year through the summer heat in Death Valley and has even idled out there for a few hours at top sun, just too keep the guys cool in the A/C. Man this truck is tough!

These are both reasons I drive a Ford.

At work we had a 94 E150 cargo van that had 360,000 mi on it when we sold it. The only major work was timing gears needed replaced on the straight six at 350,000. I still see the new owner driving it every day. I am sure it has close to 400,000 on it now. It was also lucky to see an oil change every 10,000 mi. Most miles were highway.

Thumbs up

My 98 F150 has 150,331 miles. At 1,000 miles I changed the oil moible one 5/30 and 8oz. dynosurge. 3oz. in the trans and 2oz. in the power steering. While under warranty I change at 5,000 miles. I tried amsoil and royal purple they are good but I like mobile one the best and dynosurge makes any oil good After 36,000 miles I changed at 7,500-10,000 miles. I Change my trans every 25,000 miles and filter and add 3oz.dynosurge.I change plugs around 140,000 and they didn't look to bad for 140,000 miles. I put ford plugs back 140,000 from the set why not I use dynosurge fuel treatment every 5,000 miles. My trucks got slap but it runs good K&N air filter, twice pipes cat back flowmaster delta 30 sounds good and 3 inches pipes look good. At 140,000 I use no oil between changes. I get 15-19 the only leak is in the front seal of rear. Check out the site @ WWW.dynosurge.com

My 97 4.6 Romeo has 201,000 miles on it currently, and it still runs and looks great. It uses a qt of oil every 1500 miles. As for maintance I use Valvoline Durablend and change it every 5,000 miles. The oil is still very clean when it comes out. I service the trans every 25,000 miles. There is some piston slap which can be heard for up to 1 minute after the truck is started. I only hear it when it's less than 50 F and only in gear. Rust is more of a problem here. I spray WD-40 into the tailgate and door drains to stop the rust which started very early in the trucks life.

The only real problems I've had are bearing related. The bearing in the alternator went bad at 150,000 miles. And the diff started making noise at 195,000 miles. $20 worth of parts and $40 worth of gear lube and the truck is running down the road good as new. hopefully I'll get 300,000 before I need to do any major work. If the engine does blow up, I'll be upgrading to a 99 or newer engine for more horsepower because of the better cylinder heads on the post 99 trucks.

I have a 99 F150 that has 95,000 on it and I use Amsoil 0W-30 in it and picked up 2 mpg when I switched. In there magazine someone wrote about a chevy with 576,000 on it and I am going to try to beat that I'm sure that ford has a better truck...

97 F150 4.6 - 158120 miles.

Nothing special other than regular oil and air filter changes.

Cool

Not in the club yet, but working on it! Nearing 120,000 miles, and NO mechanic has touched this engine yet for anything other than routine maintinence. Regular oil changes with Valvoline Durablend 5w30 at 3000 mile intervals. Change the air-filter once a year (right after the winter - whenever that ends...). Still haven't changed the plugs, but we're getting there - just have to find the time to have the service done!

Happy as can be!

I had a portable box. a 9mpg 1988 bronco that had 168,000 miles. I sold it last fall. I only miss it when it snows.

My truck is going strong at 108,000. Dad's '95 f-150 has 160,000 with nothing more than an oil change every 3,000 miles and a tune-up at 100,000. Both have the I6 300 engine. At the garage i work at we see tons of ford vans with the I6 that are running great with over 300,000 miles. I think nowadays you can really beat on an engine and it will still go over 100,000.

I have 120,000 on my 97. Just put new plugs in it.

I also have an 85 Ranger with over 200,000 than my dad bought brand new.

Both have never had any major work done to them. Just keep changing the oil, and once in a while change the belts, hoses, spark plugs and other stuff that is bound to wear out.

Don't you just love Ford trucks!

Talking

I've been reading on this board for almost 2 years now, and have never made a post. Great place to get info. Anyway, I am in the process of selling my 1998 f150 xlt 4.6l with 125,000 miles. Never had a problem. I used Redline oil for everything, and had a Powerdyne blower on it for more than half the miles. I'm sad to see it go, but I couldn't pass the deal on the 98 5.4 I just bought.
Thanks to everyone on this site, it has made me spend more money than my girlfriend ever has
