The F150,000 Mile Club
My Co. truck; 1997 F-150 S/C w/ 4.6L Windsor is almost 159,000 miles. This truck had tune-up @ 102,000. Ford (independant) mechanic checked many paramaters on engine & ECM. At that time, he said "engine was as good as new". Main problem has been transmission sensors--all replaced @ approx. 135,000 & problem reoccured @ 150,000 miles. At 150,000 miles, mechanic diognosed problem as oil contamination on (1) external sensor, cost about $100.00.
Both lower ball joints replaced @ 73,000 miles. New tires, alignment & front brakes @ 73,000 & 146,000 miles.
This truck gets worked hard & lightly maintained. Oil is changed @ 5,000 to 8,000 miles. It was using (1) qt. of oil (between changes); until I started using Lucas Oil Stabilizer @ approx. 144,000 miles.
The engine runs excellant, the vehicle drives as good as the day it was new, and usually gets 400 miles on a tank of fuel.
I use Motorcraft 5W30 and / or Valvoline 5W30. This 4.6L has had engine knock (cold) since about 44,000 miles.

I have a 97 with 109,000 miles on it and is running just fine. I have put nothing but 10W30 Quaker State ever since i bought it, and normal changes on trans, etc... The only problems i have had with the truck are related to the heavy offroading i previously did in my truck.
Just my .02cents, but Off-roading alot will catch up with your truck in the future!!
