Mobil 1....how long between changes?
OWNERS MANUAL SAYS SOMETHING LIKE 7000 BETWEEN CHANGES-- I GO 4000 BETWEEN CHANGES WITH THE MOBIL 1 AND THE MOBIL 1 FILTER. I LOOK AT THE COLOR ALSO, IF IT IS LOOKING DARK BEFORE THE 4000 I WOULD CHANGE IT.
I THINK MOBIL 1 IS TO EXPENSIVE TO CHANGE IT EVERY 3000 MILES. I AM NOT RICH. $$

like mightyfur said look at the oil and see what color it is when you change it and if its dark then you should change it. Also I was talking to the tech guy at my local dealership when i had my o.p. sending unit replaced, and i was askin him about mobil 1 and he said he had a taurus that he put mobil 1 in on the first oil change and he has had the same oil in it for 25k miles and it is still clean and fine to use. he just replaces the filter and tops off the oil at regular intervals.
I always went as much as 5000 miles on $1 oil and $3 Fram filter. My 1988 F150 5.0 still ran fine with no oil burning at 220000 miles when the tow truck took it to the junk yard. The rust got it before the engine quit.
Its just my stupid opinion but..
OIL is the blood of your vehical.
hehehe would you want your blood and heart changed every 3000 miles or every 7000
hahaha ok that sounds really stupid by my opinion is Mobil 1 filter and mobil 1 oil every 3000 miles. Just my opinion!!!!!!
If you want the best you hafto give the beST!

If it's under warranty, it need to still be changed according to the owner's manual or less. After warranty, Mobil 1 can easily last 5k miles; but it will look dirty. I change at 4k.

The owner’s manual states that you need to change your oil every 5K miles. If that is good enough for regular oil, Mobil 1 will surely last that long.

I used to change the oil in my wife's Explorer every 3K miles. I switched to Mobil-1 and am planning to extend the change interval out to 8K-10K miles. (Switched at 68,000 miles.) Right now, the Mobil-1 has 7,000 on it and the oil is still caramel colored and there is zero usage -- Still right on the Full mark. Think I'll likely go for 10K.
(And, no leaks! I think that is one of the "old wive's tales".)

The first thing they taught us in auto mechanics class was that you can't look at oil and tell if it's dirty. But I have to admit that it's hard not to take to looks of the oil into account.
I think if your driving involves alot of short hops that doesn't allow the engine to warm up and burn the condensation out, then you will need to change more often.
I do alot of highway driving and have always changed Mobil 1 at 5,000 miles with no problems. I put a post earlier about a guy who had just traded an F-150/5.4 with 328,000 miles on it. He said it was in great shape when he traded and he ran regular Shell oil changed every 7,000 miles. I regular oil will do that, just think what Mobil 1 will do.
My advice would be to put 5,000 miles on the Mobil 1, send a sample off and have it analyzed. Then you won't have to rely on our opinions. You'll know for sure.
Sorry for the long post.

I simply have more money than brains -- so I change the Mobil1 and Mobil1 Filter at 3,000 miles (plus or minus snow-storms -- which also determines whether the filter gets changed or not).
my folks bought into a tv repair/sales business back in the 80's and it came with two ford econoline vans with I6 motors.
one van didn't have a gascap on it and when i checked the oil....the dipstick was rusted and the oil looked like rusty crudded mud. i don't think the oil had ever been changed.
i bought some motor flush and cleaned it out. 5000 miles later the oil still looked like crud but with regular oil changes it
got better all the time. back then it had 110,000 miles on it. it would start on the first try and i used to race my brother in the '70 mustang coupe and beat him all the time. we sold the business in the 90's and
every once in a while i pass by and see the
van. i can't believe it's still alive.
i know someone at work who changes the mobil 1 in his '99 cobra mustang every 1500 miles.
i think that is just a plain waste of resources. i think we sometimes get fanatical about stuff that doesn't warrant it.
just change the oil regulary (every 5k with dino oil), longer with mobil 1.
my brother has a BMW and the engine monitors the oil condition and it usually prompts him at about 10,000 miles. and he regularly revs the motor to 6000 (redline is about 7000).
jiffy lube and the oil companies are businesses that want you to change every 3000k.
