If i remember right Ford does not own Mazda but has a controlling interest in them, something like 33%. I always thought Ford used a lot of foriegn motors for little things, 3 litres and under. I do not recollect any Ford motors going into Ford designed Japanese cars. I.E. Nissan Quest, Mazda B series trucks etc..

The mazda and the ranger are bulit in the same plant in New Jersey. The 4 & 6 cylinder's are American built. But some parts may be manufactured by foreign vendors. The 2.3L is the same engine that was originally placed in pintos. Only difference is the double plugs. Ford has a large interest in Mazda. And they share technologies. But they don't own them. As for Mitsubishi....Your thinking of Chrysler.

Double check about that transmission being a Mitsubishi, I'm sure it's not. Mazda 5 spd. tranny's were common in those pick-ups.

Some did have a Mits. trans, they are very expensive to get pats for, i had a BroncoII come in that needed a cluster gear and it was over $1000 just for the cluster shaft.

Ford does own most of Mazda. As well as Jaguar, Vovlo, Aston Martin and Land Rover. We all know Mercury and Lincoln. In the kc plant where we make the Excape and Mazda Tribute. They both use the same motor also. Hell you can get A plan on all those company's above.

i'm not sure whether it was in the annual report or on the web site, but Ford owns a controlling interest (roughly 30%) of Mazda. So essentially they own Mazda. I wouldn't be suprised if, as many of you have noted they do with their bodies, Ford took a Mazda engine put thier badge on it and installed it in a Mazda.

I keep hearing in this thread that Ford has a controlling interest in MAZDA with only 30%. Folks....that means 70% of the stock is owned by others. Therefore they don't own a controlling interest. They just own a large portion of the company.

Well I guess what you describe would be true if the other 70% was owned by just one company or group of like minded investors but as is so oten the case with publicly traded companies he who has the largest share has controlling intrest. Now ALL of the other stock owners can get togther and form a group this changes. But in this age of mutual funds and computer trading that is not likily.

BTW, I think Ford ownership of mazda is closer to 60% now.

I hate to bring this back up but it has been bugging me and I finally got my answer. As I stated before Ford has a controlling interest, others have also said so, and yes a controlling intrest need only be a plurality--which means you have the mojority of a number of something less then 50%. It could be 60% by now but I always thought it was more like 33%. Anyway, I came back to this subject because we are looking at a '01 B4000 and it has everything a Ranger does except the body moldings that is the difference. The whole drive train is the same as the Ranger. I found out the partnership between Ford and Mazda on accident here is the link: http://www.mazda.co.nz/corporate/1001.html I haven't been looking hard to varify my post but happened upon this when trying to find out more about the B series.

I just found another link that confirms: Ford owns 33% here it is:

My lady (soon to be wife) just bought a 02 Mazda duel sport B3000 white x-cab (or what ever they call it on Mazda's). The dash is the same as my 97 F150 XLT, except smaller. I mean they are died on. So I say they have a lot in common.

B4000

My wife has a Mazda B4000. The Mazda owner guide recommends 10w30 for temps above 10F. Under the hood the information sticker states Ford recommends 5w30.
