you might try F150 world. it seems to be a more mature forum with more real information. this board seems more interested in their quarter mile times and tearing out their drivetrain.

the oil pan on my '94 4.9 was seriously rusted and had to be replaced. ( in just 7 years!!) the trans had to be disconected and the motor jacked up. don't know about the oil pickup. lots of labor cost for a $100 part!!

good luck with your project.

Yes you will have to raise up the engine...not sure by how much though. Just unbolt the motor mounts, probably the exhaust and maybe the intake plenum. Hoist it up by the lifting rings. The tranny should be able to stay in place. We had a 92 E-150 van that the oil pan rotted out in and it has barely ever been driven winters. Never had a problem before with other 302's but I think Ford might have had some bad pans for a few years.

Also how is your oil pressure? If it is running on the lower side and you have some miles on it this may not be a bad time to pop in some new rod bearings and a new oil pump. I have had too many 302's come to an early death because of bad rod bearings and no oil pressure.
