Question Acceptable mileage???

Bought a 2000 150 XLT Supercab, 4.6, automatic, 3.08 limited slip. (Should've checked the mileage when I bought it unmodified in DEC '01, but I didn't). I've Bought and installed some things since: K&N air filter, Gibson 2 into 1 exhaust system and fuel line magnets. (Do you suppose these magnets really help?). I've just calculated my mileage for the first time and with mostly city driving (approx 75%) I got a whopping 16.2 mpg. I drive it pretty easy. Is this an acceptable figure for this vehicle? What is the approximate norm for a vehicle like this? I'll await some feedback. Thanks. HarleyF150

Sounds typical. I'm sure a few will post they get 50 MPG, but I researched F150 mileage a lot before I bought my 5.4l SCrew. When someone really posts the odo readings, and gallons added over many tankfuls they always avereage out to something lower than the 20+ mpg claims. Nearly every log I saw had average mileages in the sixteens.

I get about exactly the same as you ... 16.x I have looked at it over about 3300 miles. Not a full test, but it gives me a good idea that I am getting about exactly what I expected.

The magnets are supposed to organize the molecules in the fuel as they pass my the magnets. They work on the same principal as alimony payments. Your money is gone, but you get no benefits.

Sounds like average mileage to me. Magnets=useful for many things, but not fuel mileage. They work better on drain plugs.

That seems pretty good for your config. If you were to track the mileage for several tanks of gas you might see some on the 14's and might even see one or two in the 20's. On average though I'd say your right on.
I have got as good as 22mpg and as bad as 14mpg. I have found that with highway driving and good gas I get really good mileage. With the winter weather my mileage has gon down. In the warmer months I was seeing about 18mpg. Now I see about 16mpg. I think the supercharger that I installed is causing a decrease. I tend to like hearing the sound it makes, and feeling the power so I burn a bit more gas.

Your mileage sounds normal. In a similar setup, I see about 17mpg on a 5 1/2 year long term average now. I've been as low as 11.5 mpg and as high as 22+ mpg.
