Door Crack

I was wondering where many of you were exactly getting the crack on your door. I have a 2000 that has recently developed a hair sized crack on its exterior, towards the rear of the door, kind of where the sheet metal meets the window. I figured they worked all the kinks out of the 2000 model..I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones. Also, how the heck do I repair it? I figured a little caulk couldnt hurt anything but thats not the totally correct way to go. Thanks

Mines right by the molding from the window. It's not very big, maybe only a 1/4 inch long.....now at least

My dealer fixed the crack on my '99 Supercab 4x4, only for it to return a few months later. I solved my problem when I went out and bought my screw, no more cracks, no more oil leaks, no more wipers that start without anybody touching the switch, etc. I could continue, but I digress

I'm suppose to get my door replaced this week. I too had about a 3/4" long crack on the door where the molding meets. I just hope that the other door doesn't crack too.

Funny you guys mention the wipers starting by themselves. What is up with that? My truck does that too, it is SUPER annoying.

Wiper Fix

Take the stalk apart and clean all the greese out of it. The tip of the stalk pries off with a small screwdriver and you will see the nut that holds it on. You do not need to take the stalk off the steering column. Be careful when you disassemble you don't loose any of the small parts.
For some reason Ford used conducting greese (or it becomes conducting with dirt).
Be careful where the spring and ball bearing goes. Reassemble with a very light coating of di-electric greese (non-conducting).

This worked great with mine. It would come on just about anytime except when I wanted it to.

On the driver's door, starting from the side mirror follow the window rubber to the bottom/back corner (above door handle), then go up the vertical part of the window rubber about 1-2 inches. Pull back the rubber and if you have a crack it will be there (close to the "second generation airbags" sticker).
