NEED HELPP ON 4.2
Ok fellow ford fans here it is: I am a third generation ford man and am on my fourth ford pick up.
I purchased a 97 f-150 4x2 reg cab 4.2 v6 5 speed in the summer of 99 and have had a hard time rembering a truck that I love more than this one. The truck had 39000 miles on it when I took delivery and at 50000 I broke a plugwire while changing plugs due to rough idle and went ahead and replaced all 6 at that time. Between that and regular 3-5 thousand mile oil changes with valvoline 10w30 and fram oil filters is the only things that I have done to this pickup. I currently have 76500 miles on it and out in the yard under the engine hoist it rests untill I decide what to do with the engine that has a severly bent rod on the number one cilander,
resulting in a piston that is smack up aginst the crank with big chunks of aluminum from somewhere laying in the oil pan. Two weeks ago a friend noticed a pungent antifreeze smell when we returned from the lake and liquid comming from the tailpipe....upon further inspection the muffler has a small hole in it beneath the outlet hole all the pipe joints throughout the entire exhaust system were wet. I changed the oil and filter that day and the oil looked normal, the radiator resivor was full and the truck was running like a top within the usual temp range and oil pressure. I drove it 120 miles round trip the following day to work without it missing a lick and back to work the next day but upon turning the key to head home that afternoon it sounded like there was someone hammering on the oil pan with an 8# sledge. That quick it happened without warning of any kind unless the antifreeze had a part in this. I am puzzled and confused trying to decide to have a machine shop re-build this engine (SAYS WINDSOR ON THE VALVECOVER) get a new engine from somewhere, or buy a used one from a salvage yard and ditch the truck which makes me want to cry as I love this truck so. Any advise, imput, simalar cases, engine supplier info, or sympathy will be greatly appricated...thanks!
OH......a FQR is DEFINATLEY out of the question for it is overpriced and 12000 miles is all the confidence they have in their product.
AND.....will a 2000 4.2 v6 fit right in where the 97 4.2 came out of? Ford is telling me some stuff about the entire engine being redesigned mid year 97 hence the FQR is the only thing avavible for the 97!
