Question Supercharge A Harley Edition

What is the best supercharger to use if I want a really reliable truck and a healthy dose of Horses to add to my Harley on order?

I heard MagnaCharger released their 5.4 kit.

Also the Holley SC kit is good but pricey, and probably the nicest looking kit.

Crash will answer this much better as he always does.

Hey Crash, any on news on a Holley kit for the 4.6?

I think they are both straight boltons - a lotta parts to bolt on. Not positive, some else could answer this much better.

Big heavy truck, only one type of supercharger you should consider - POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT. That narrows your choices to a Magnacharger, Holley, or Kenne Bell. The KB has the best blower (from an efficiency standpoint), but the kit isn't intercooled like the M'charger and Holley. Also, KB service and support are terrible!! The Magnacharger is a straight bolt on affair, it comes with everything you need. It runs at 5 psi, expect about a 65 rwhp gain. The Holley is a a great kit that comes with a few extras, at a premium$$. The "extras" include an 80mm TB, chip, 30# injectors, and a hi-flo air filter. You'll need to buy a Gen II Lightning alternator for the Holley kit as well (not cheap!), this is not the case for the M'charger. The Holley runs at 8 psi, expect a 110 rwhp gain. By the time you buy a TB, chip, FIPK, and injectors for the M'charger kit, you'll be approaching the Holley price. These items are optional, but they'll get you to the elusive 100 rwhp gain.

I gained 95 rwhp with my M'charger kit after a home made FIPK and a few different custom programs on my chip. Feel free to give me a hollar, I have 29 dyno runs archived on the progress of my 5.4 4wd truck!

Why a different alternator for the Holley kit?

Cool

HI!... I was at my local HOTROD shop the other day and while I was talking to my buddy there, I asked him to look up the price on the HOLLEY "THUNDER" supercharger kit. WOW! Their nuts! In CANADA here, it would cost me $13,800(CAN) for their kit after taxes! I could almost buy 3 KENNE BELL "BLOWZILLA" supercharger kits for that much money!! I called KENNE BELL a few weeks ago and they faxed me a copy of one of their DYNO sheets for a "99" 5.4 in a EXPEDITION. Stock it made 195H.P at the rear wheels. After the installation of their kit, it made 309H.P at the rear wheels. That's a increase of 114H.P!! I asked, and was told this was done with a "EDDY CURRENT" dyno machine with the truck in 3RD gear. (1-1 ratio) I will be running my kit with 8PSI so if I get a true 100H.P at the rear wheels, I will be really happy. That's if KENNE BELL exaderated their #'s slightly. It is not uncommon to get near 100H.P rear wheel H.P with a KENNE BELL supercharger kit.

West coast, I only can answer on the holley s/c. A friend of mine just purchased one and we finished the install of it today. It was an involved job but no fabricating had to be done. At the same time we added headers as well and it added about 4 hours to the job. I did most of the install where my buddy handed me tools and helped where an extra hand was needed and took us a better part of 20 hours for the whole install from start to cleanup....As stated above one has to buy the lightning altinator for the clearance needed. As far as peformance...my goodness his 99 f-150 5.4 just flat gets up and screams..I have warned him to get better tires and he is doing that this morning. From what I have researched magna charger is the best for the money and if you have some extra cash I wouldn't hesitate putting the holley on my own truck. It performs with the best of them but has a show quality finish that is darn impressive when one opens the hood....
Captain obvious..as far as one for the 4.6 holley hasn't got one for it yet

ecm747x - Thanks, I wouldn't mind getting Holley Kit on 4.6, just wish they would make. It's just how it looks.
