My 5.4 is "slapping"!!!
Try contacting your state's Attorney General's office and your state's Dept. of Public Safety. The Attorney General's office can help you with your dealings with the dealer if you feel they are not being honest, upfront or helpful. I wrote a letter to my state's Attorney General regarding what I felt were dishonest sales practices at my local Ford dealer. The letter was sent to the dealer manager along with a recommendation to resolve the issue from the Attorney General's office. The dealer promptly contacted me and admitted to a problem.
The Dept of Public Safety will be interested in the actual problem with the vehicle.
Good Luck.

My 2003 started a few months ago at 30k. I have been too busy to get to the dealer, but I plan on taking it there soon. One thing I learned from my Windstar issue, was that some well written letters to the right folks and Ford will work with you on resolving the issue.
