ATTN: All FQR Cases
My 5.4 was replaced last Thursday. My understanding was that it would be a new engine also. However, it is indeed a FQR. So far so good anyway. What is the warranty on an FQR engine?

I just gathered more information. I have found that '99 vehicles no longer will receive NEW engines because they aren't manufactured anymore, makes sense. '00 vehicles will no longer receive new engines either, soon. The reason is that Ford is now running 2001 and 2002 castings, therefore, the only castings that can be used are bad engines to be rebuilt. FQR engines are completely NEW except for the actual block which is supposedly inspected and remachined. I do highly doubt the blocks aren't carefully inspected because of the cost of the remainder NEW parts that are used. As I previously mentioned, I have seen the engine and it does have NEW heads among other exterior components. Keep in mind that all this information has been gathered outside this message board through various channels and I have no way of verifying if this is true, but multiple sources have indicated the same story. By the way, word to the wise, insist on a extended warranty if you are in a situation like this with the vehicle being so new.
Standard FQR warranty is 1 year/ 12,000 miles.

Cold Expy,
Did they say, or do you know exaclty why a 2001 wont work? I would still take alot of pictures, it is better safe than sorry.
I did read on here from someone who knows, that at the end of the year all the engines and parts that arent used in production are then made into FQR's, so they could actually have all new parts. I will try to find the thread and post a link if I find it.
When are they putting in the engine?
I hope all goes well.

FUTURE MODS:
-K&N FIPK
-2001 Lightning wheels?
-Lightning front bumper cover, & foglights
-MTX Thunderforms for S/C
-Upgraded speakers in doors
-amplifier
-2" drop, front & rear
(I think that is a good start)

Cold expy, I'd bet my next paycheck that is NOT a new engine. I have been through this issue and have researched this to the nth degree. you are getting a USED block, and probably (though I cant say for sure) new everything else. they rescore the cylinders, and put the same size pistons in again. FQR motors come as a long block (no intake, no belts, no air cond, no alternator.) NEW motors come as a short block, that is "run ready". this is info straight from a solid source. I made them pull the heads on my FQR motor to check the pistons to make sure they were new. Of course, I had to trust them anyway cause I didnt know how to translate what was stamped on them. I can tell you pistons are stamped blue or green, and that that is what tells if the pistons are new or useds. I do not know if oversized rings are used. feel free to call me and I can tell you more about this. I took the FQR, and got a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty for taking it. I am NOT happy with it. It vibrates at idle, gets less mileage per gallon, and during the first 500 miles had a great deal of internal friction from poor tolerances judging by my mileage, and the silver sheen to the oil I took out at 500 miles at night under a flashlight. I am still proceeding with asking them to buy this thing back from me. email me at aschubert@dellnet.com with your email address and phone number, and I will send you my phone number. Also send me your full name as you are listed in the phone book and your city so I can verify it is you before I call. I also have pics of the pistons in my FQR motor with the coding on them. By the way, rebuilt motors can look very new after they are cleaned up, the heads shaved, and the valve seats rehoned!! I personally would like to find a high level ford exec. and cram this damn truck down his throat. Before anyone berates me, let me say that I still think the f150 is the best full size truck out there, but fords policies on this fqr thing and service in general stink, and I just got one of the many bum engines out there in the 97 to 99 model year range.
Well here we go, exactly what I was trying to avoid just occurred! To recap, '99 Expedition, 4.6l, 22,000 miles, slight slapper, major leaker from you know where! Originally I was told the replacement would be a NEW 2000, then NEW 2001. The 2001 won't work so I trusted it would be at least a NEW 2000. I looked at the engine under the plastic crate, can you say FQR? Complete with heads, oil pan, valve covers, oil filter, pcv valve and Ford Factory Renewal sticker on valve cover. Built date 12/20/00 from (?) Texas. Service writer insisted it's new. After plenty of experience building engines, I must admit, it sure looked new. No old gasket impressions on the heads or visable external block casting corrosion. Oh boy, now what? The engine is not in yet and I've read plenty of horror stories. Any suggetions or comments from FQR'rs.
I had my engine replaced at 50K with an FQR. I changed the oil at 1K. Put in Amsoil and ran that for 11K. The oil analysis showed high metals. I was told by the analyzers and people on this site that it was probably due to break-in. My next analysis will tell.
I also get much worse mileage with this engine. Why? This engine does, however, feel stronger!
The FQR runs very well. Has a very VERY minor shake at idle. But most newer V8 engines I've driven do.
